Re: Question - Yellowstone Park Cutthroats

Sounds like the NE quad is the target.

Thanks guys for your input. Funny, the Lamar was my destination last summer when bad timing (chip sealing the road) shut me down. Ooh I can't wait!

Re: bleaching herl instructions ?

That's a good question... is the goal to strip the quill or change the color?

You can strip it pretty fast with a pencil eraser (if that's the goal).

Re: green drake emerger pattern

The main reason I prefer the scientific names (versus the common names) other than the point illustrated above, is that it narrows down the subtleties of the specific insect.

Case in point -...

Question - Yellowstone Park Cutthroats

Looks like the family and I will be heading back to West Yellowstone this summer, question is... what river/stream (inside YNP) should I put on my "must hit" list for fishing over decent sized...

Re: green drake emerger pattern

Interesting "east meets west" theme going on here... I'm pretty sure (given his location) that powderfinger is referring to the Green Drake as in Ephemera guttulata, and the (western) Green Drake -...

Re: I'm so tired of getting ripped off!

That's not at all what you were "just sayin", but nothing wrong with back-peddling I suppose.

Thumbs up Re: Whitefish

Only my third year living out west, so I still get a kick out of them... And they've already been the highlight of a few trips that would have been (otherwise) miserable.

Re: New PA guy

Eunan,

See my previous post on this thread, you guys should get together and car pool it to the Lehigh Valley. Those streams are teaming with trout... MUCH more productive than Valley Creek! You...

Re: I'm so tired of getting ripped off!

I'm going to assume that you are a very young man, possibly a guy that just took his first economics class and now has it ALL FIGURED OUT!

Chinese manufacturing is NOT better quality...

Re: New PA guy

Josh,

I want you to get out your PA Atlas & Gazatteer and plot a course for the Lehigh Valley Region about an hour+ drive north of you. Find the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area and seek out...

Re: Will I kill 'em?

Good advice given here already regarding carrying a thermometer... great idea once the flows drop off and the temp's heat up. It would probably surprise some that many of the "storied" trout streams...

Re: Tying a Spinner with hackle??

I've seen Caucci's method of hackled spinner wings illustrated in his book Hatches II... two hackles are wrapped traditional style about mid-body forward, and then clipped top and bottom. The...

Re: Evolution of an Angler

I just don't get it... If you're going to mess with a feeding fish, why not go ahead and try to catch it? Can't the mere act of luring a fish away from it's feeding lie cause it grief in a "compete...

Re: Bucket List MUST Fish Fisheries of the EAST?

My initial response would have been the Catskill Region of New York, but since you mentioned summer specifically... your options would be limited (and the classic mayfly hatches finished for the most...

Those that would be fighting on your (our) behalf.

Don't get me wrong, they mean well and honestly fight the good fight. The problem (as always) when "fighting the man" is that those doing the...

Re: Nymphs for smallmouth bass?

Back in PA I used to fish the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers for smallmouth bass. These are both large rivers (300+ feet across) and I did best in areas where islands broke the river down into smaller...

Re: Alaskans to D.C.: Stop Pebble Mine From Destroying 14,000 American Jobs

Yes. Not now, not tomorrow, maybe not in this decade (first feed was always targeted around 2018)... but it will go ahead. They always do (eventually).

All this hype over the past 5 years or so is...

WHAT? BLASPHEMY!

I threw a rock at the last guy I caught playing with his smart phone while we were fly fishing!

That reminds me... I need to go and apologize to my boss. :o

I've done a lot of WARMwater fishing in that region and absolutely loved it (Shohola Dam, Promised Land Lakes, and of course the Delaware River were all favorites). In fact the shad should be running...
