Re: Whats the worst cork you've ever seen?

I'd say the one that I'm most disappointed with is a Sage Z-Axis I bought new.

The cork isn't awful. It isn't anything special, either. As I said, disappointing.

Re: Watch for a 5 mile closure on the Bitterroot river.

I'm not sure how far this whole "let's protect people from themselves" business should go.

Posting a sign saying that you can get killed here if you're not careful should be enough in my opinion....

Re: Show us Your Photography

Very nice.

Did you use a neutral density filter for the first one?

Fish it anyway

The voting seems to be going to the 'Fish It' side.

I'm inclined to agree. Even if I were to break it, I'm not taking much of a chance. This is what Terry Henson said about that possibility:

Re: Rods as 'Works of Art'

Yeah. Should have thought of that.

Here you go. This is the only one I have. I can take more detailed pictures if anyone's interested.

Rods as 'Works of Art'

Many custom builders build rods that can reasonably be called 'works of art'.

I have one of those rods. It was built by Terry Henson. You can see some of his work here: HensonRods |

Re: My streamers won't swim or orient the way I want them.

A simple and cheap thing to try is micro-swivels.

They're about $4 for a pack of 25.

Re: First week of May ... any ideas ?

Can I assume you don't want to go after stocked fish?

If so, I'd be looking for wild trout and holdovers (OK, they're stocked, but not recently) right around where you live.

If you don't mind...

Re: where did the thread go?

38 of your trees?

I can see how that would be annoying.

There's obviously a good story here. Please let us know.

Re: Wristwatches What You Wear And Why

Probably because I'm one of those "not a watch person" people, I've never even looked at a potential hire's wrist to see whether he had a watch, or what it was.

I haven't had a wrist watch in...

Re: The Cost of Trout Fishing

The author isn't a biologist, pretend or otherwise.

He's a geologist. Or, at least he's a "... professor of geology at Connecticut College". A 'professor of geology' and a 'geologist' are not...

Take care of yourself. I'm praying for you.

This getting old business is not for sissies, is it?

Re: Sage 1880 Spool

If you didn't already know - 1680 and 2080 spools will also work.

I've found a few 1830 spools, but no 1880.

Re: The Cost of Trout Fishing

The article was pretty thin on facts.
It had more "I estimate" and "studies suggest" than facts.

The author's 34 million pounds of trout feed may be accurate. He gives no source for that number,...

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

I have two of these - a 7'6" 2 wt. and a 10' 6 wt.

I use the 2 wt. quite a bit. It's a true 2 wt. and works well with a standard 2 wt. line.

I use the 6 wt. when I need more reach. I also...

Re: Looking for suggestions, if there are any…..

Late last year I encountered some large browns that wouldn't bite on anything I threw at them.

Finally, I tried a conehead bunny leech in natural color. That worked very well on that day. It was...

Re: What are the sizes of trout?

I think the question really is "What's a good size trout for the current spot I'm fishing?".

Obviously, there's no set answer to that question.

I can go to spots where I'll catch 12"-20"...

Re: Abel - Tibor - Hatch

Just to add one more reel to the mix - I've been using a Galvan Torque-8 on an 8wt TFO BVK.

The drag is plenty strong and very progressive on the knob.

One thing I like is that you don't need...

Re: Ultragreen Maxima

I haven't had good results fly fishing with Maxima Ultragreen. It does make very good spinning line, however.

I use Chameleon (red) for lots of things with flies.

Re: Pleasant surprise at Basspro.

They tailor the space to the likely clients.

The Bass Pro in Hooksett, NH has a pretty decent fly section. The ones in Florida have very small sections.

Re: Very bottom of my fly rod handle is crooked, anyone else seen this before?

The question of voiding the Sage warranty has come up in this thread. Earlier I posted this about that question:

I sent an e-mail to Sage asking:

"I have a Z-Axis 586-2. I bought it from a...
