Re: Hawaii suggestions?

Thanks everyone for your replies and suggestions. Sorry I haven't responded. This trip got scary about the time it became a possibility. Not something we would generally do. I'm looking at lots of...

Re: I found my perfect ffishing rig!

Didn't one of the Trout Bum films feature a trip thru south America in a Mexican made Jeep that constantly broke down?

Re: A tying question,,but kind'a a fishing question too

Back when I was a bait fisherman, popular opinion was that having a smoker spit on your bait was good because it covered the human scent on the worm, especially when ice fishing. Akin to using WD-40...

Re: Ooooh ohhhhh that smell!

Is the funky odor on your bucktails like rot/bad meat? Or is it vinegar-y from the dye process? If it's rot, the borax will dry it out, but the smell maybe forever. Borax is generally not scented. If...

Re: my fly tying station

I also like a white background under my vise. I use a half sheet of poster board and I use the matte side so it's not too shiny. It protects the table top, it helps reflect light from the florescent...

Re: Question about sink tips

I made a 6' and a 12' from an old full sink line. I whipped loops in both ends of each. They've ridden in the small pockets of my vest for over 10 years. I've used the twelve footer once.

Re: Moving North

I wouldn't live in East coast humidity on a bet! That wet winter air gets into your bones. I grew up in South Jersey and I still like to September or October. 18 months at Andrews was more...

Re: I made the leap, could use some help

Good job, FlyGuy!
My 3rd anniversary was 1 Sept after smoking for over 40 years. Yay. I've been a little underwhelmed by the changes since I quit. I don't think I'm ever getting my wind back, just...

Re: April Vokey

I'm a little stuck in the past. The best photo I can recall of April was from a magazine I had around here for a long time. In that photo she looked like she was 12. I was about to order you all down...

Hawaii suggestions?

Hi All,
My wife and her friend are discussing a trip to Hawaii for the three of us for a week in October. Our friend has time shares available so the trip will be airfares and food/incidentals. We...

Re: Who loves to partake in....

I've been enjoying sardines in oil since I was a kid. I prefer saltines and a Coke: you get those (urp) repeaters so you get more bang for your buck. My local grocery recently stopped carrying King...

Re: Wader and Boot Dryer Advice Please

+1 I've always been amazed at how well even the low buck wader shoes I buy last with very little attention. When I come off the water, the shoes go in the back of the pickup. Some times they ride...

Re: Fly tying

For me: Deer hair heads and bodies. I'm likely to break the thread (even Kevlar) once or twice on each fly and they always look raggedy and sparse.

Re: Storing fly tying wire

I wrap couple of rubber bands around the wire spools and I leave the bands on the spools when I put them in a bobbin. Seems to work OK.

Re: Home Depot?

Shoe Goo and Aqua Seal. Epoxy for rod repairs. You can buy and store extras in the rig for on-stream repairs. Gorilla Tape: You can never have enough!

Re: Long inseam in waders... big issue?

+1 What Silver Creek said. You'll want some slack to allow climbing. Just picture that taut barbed wire fence. Be careful about wader material rubbing between the legs as Ptarmigan said. If you walk...

Re: Knots or Loops

Olden days instruction used to recommend a 10-12" stiff 30# mono section nail knotted to the fly line, then looped or tied to a tapered leader. I still set up new lines this way (though I use furled...
