Re: Reel for a Zenith 10' 7wt

That jump in weight is the only reason I haven't already purchased a reel. I just wasn't sure what to put on it.

Unless someone has a better recommendation... I like the U DD and may just go with...

Re: Chameleon, Ultragreen or Clear - Which one to use?

From the website...
Chameleon: Invisible in cloudy or lightly stained water like in lakes & rivers. Toughest finish. Ideal for fly leader.
Ultragreen: Virtually invisible in freshwater and inshore...

Line for a 10' 7wy Zenith

I mean this to be an easy question (and maybe somewhat dumb :o). I am finally putting a reel on my 10' 7wt Zenith. I will likely use it for steelhead or any situation where I need the reach of a...

Re: Chameleon, Ultragreen or Clear - Which one to use?

Thanks Rip!

The Chameleon is what has been recommended to me. Though I think Kelly Galloup likes the Ultragreen for a streamer leader. George Anderson uses the Clear in his hand tied leaders. The...

Re: Reel for a Zenith 10' 7wt

Hmmm... That's a tough hole to fill. It falls right between the lighter 7s and the much beefier 8 size reels (or 3.5 and 4)??

I would prefer not to buy a $400 reel.

The Hardy U DD7000 is 5.43...

Chameleon, Ultragreen or Clear - Which one to use?

I'm beginning to tie some of my own freshwater leaders. Maxima seems to be the butt material of choice. They have three different kinds though without a lot of detailed information on the differences...

Re: Best of the Forum- Fly Fishing Notebook

Lab,

I'm not sure how complete your library is. Lefty Kreh's book Presenting the Fly has a few pages with 47 one line tips on fly fishing - Pages 5-7 beginning with, "Always approach the fish as...

Re: Reel for a Zenith 10' 7wt

Salt,

The lightest version they have is more than 10 ozs. Won't this be a little heavy for a 10' 7wt Zenith?

Re: Reel for a Zenith 10' 7wt

Thanks Labrador!

I have the Hardy U DD on my shortlist. Before I pulled the trigger, I thought I would ask the question just to make sure I wasn't missing something. I assume my 4 piece 10' rod...

Reel for a Zenith 10' 7wt

I have a 10' 7wt Hardy Zenith that I have yet to put a reel on. I'm planning to make it a steelhead rod and am considering the Rio Steelhead/Salmon fly line. So, I want a drag appropriate for that. I...

Re: tfo bvk/croix imperial??

Some good suggestions here. I can't add any more. What I can offer is a little insight to the BVK and St Croix Imperial.

I like fast action rods - Zenith, BVK and Imperial. The BVK, for me, is too...

Re: Fluorocarbon vs. Mono Leaders - when to use what

Thanks Silver,

That was helpful and even added something to my posted question about tying leaders.

Now, if I want to use fluoro for dry fly tippet, I need to figure out which brands offer the...

Re: Help my yarns a slipping.

What you want is the New Zealand Strike Indicator. Google it. It should solve your problems.

Re: Leader tying question?

Thanks S&S!

This is good information to have. I'm new to this and very much still learning. There was a whole conversation a while back that included mono tippet rubbed down with Snake River Mud...

Re: Fluorocarbon vs. Mono Leaders - when to use what

Labrador,

Hopefully there will be more of a response to your question. One thought I had that would be the best of both worlds is to use the supple version of Seguar flouro. They have a Grand Max...

Re: Help my yarns a slipping.

My solution was to use a different strike indicator.

Re: Leader tying question?

In my previous post, I meant to say "sweetandsalt's" parabolic test. I corrected it.

My understanding with flouro is that when used as a tippet for dry fly fishing, it will sink making it less...

Re: Fluorocarbon vs. Mono Leaders - when to use what

I had a thread sometime back that went to mono vs. flouro tippet for dry fly fishing. I can't find the thread. The suggestion was made to use Snake River Mud on your mono tippet. The reasons were it...

Re: Feathers - treating for mites & dying?

Thanks. In terms of smell, are you referring to saving my sinuses or the fish? Would a product like vinegar leave an odor on the feathers that a fish could detect?

Also, where would I buy powdered...
