Re: WTB 6wt Fast action rod

I have Redington CPX, 6 wt. 9'0". That's a very fast rod.

I'm about 99+% sure it's never been used. It has the Redington tube, sock, and Registration card. (I have the rod with me, but the...

Re: Brookie Of A Lifetime

I wouldn't beat my self up over this.

Last summer, my grandson had a similar experience with a good-sized brook trout. We tried several times to revive it, but it never got fully under its own...

Re: No matter what your weather is...

Probably a little of each.

I know the area she was in. I wouldn't think of going there in a storm, summer or winter.

It's not like the forest service doesn't warn you, though. Signs like this...

Re: No matter what your weather is...

Unfortunately, a woman from NYC tried to hike Mt. Madison, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Washington starting Sunday AM.

She set her Emergency Locator Beacon off around 3:00 PM Sunday, but conditions were so...

Re: Big fish know where to hang outů Take-2

Hang in there.

Last year, I hooked, for a couple seconds, what I'm pretty sure was the same fish, in the same undercut by a fallen tree, on three different occasions.

Never did catch it.

Now that's a good idea that I hadn't thought of.

Thanks.

No matter what your weather is...

Things can always get worse.

In my neck of the woods, Mt Washington is always fascinating weather-wise. Here's the current conditions:

Re: The Little Things

Silverized mylar 'space blanket'.

Those are nearly indestructible. They'll keep you at least dry, and somewhat warm.

Re: Your earliest memory of fly fishing?

Back in the mid-50's, during our summer vacations, trout were an important part of our diet. We were a family of seven.

My father fly fished all the time. My job, when I was 7 and 8 years old,...

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

Yes. On my postal scale.
The high weight was one of the reasons I mentioned it.
It has a fighting butt. That adds a little weight. It's also a 10 footer which adds a little more.
The only other...

Re: Sage One 490-4 performance

I have a ONE that is 6" shorter - the 8'6" 4 wt.

I don't have a 5 wt. ONE, but I do have an 8'6" 5 wt. Z-Axis.

The ONE is lighter, and somewhat faster, but it's a 4 wt. vs. the 5 wt. Z-Axis. ...

Re: Feeling the Strike, Setting the Hook

Last year, in a very rocky river with lots of 'stuff' on the bottom, I set a hook when the line stopped moving in the current.
I then gave a good tug and nothing moved. So, I figured I had hooked...

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

I have the 10' 6 wt.
I use it when I need a little distance on a larger river.
The only criticism I have is that it's somewhat heavy. Part of that, I'm sure, is that I almost never use a rod...

Re: Feeling the Strike, Setting the Hook

Winter is probably the worst time to try to learn how to detect strikes.
Strikes at this time of year can be very, very light.
Still, if you can succeed now you'll be in great shape when things...

Re: Look what they are labeling as "fish" nowdays

There was an episode on Guy Fieri's show 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' on the Food Channel recently about a restaurant in New Orleans (I think) that served raccoon.

I like the Cabela's GuideWear pants. They dry very quickly. A little pricey unless they're on sale.

Re: CT Stocks Record brown Trout

Anyone who has seen my fishing reports knows I spend a lot of time on the 'thin blue lines' in the mountains chasing smallish wild fish.

On the other hand, chasing large, stocked, 2-4 lb. trout is...

TFO BVK 0 - Works well. Looks a little fragile to me, though.
Bass Pro Classic Ultralight - probably the ultralight reel I use most often.
Abel TR Light - this and the Bass Pro would be all I'd...

Re: When Did The Rules Change, and Why Am I The Last To Know?

First, on the insurance thing.

All insurance companies have a formal appeal process. You might look into that. However, I'm guessing you have a deductible on your policy, so you might not get...
