Re: Stickers and your Fishmobile

I just have one Sage sticker on the door to my topper.

I try to leave nothing in the truck worth stealing whenever I'm on the river. The raft trailer pretty much says where I am so there's no...

Re: Summer FF related work in MT

Yeah, he's forgotten me a couple of times. It's always worked out but makes for some "Gee, I hope the rigs there..." moments at some of those takeouts.
That being said, in his defense, he's always...

Re: Southeast Montana help...

Re: Tips for guides... Please read

They're all a bunch of freaks, flakes, drunks and stoners.

The only tip they deserve is to be told to "Get a haircut, shave off that godawful beard, quit smoking that weed and get a real job!"...

Re: Backcountry Steelhead and Salmon fishing in Idaho???

I'm just going from memory here, but I don't think there are any tributaries to the Salmon besides the Little Salmon that are open to steelhead or salmon fishing.
There are sections of the Salmon...

Re: Oil found IN Yellowstone Fish

The lower Yellowstone has smallmouth bass, sauger, walleyes and channel cats.
It also has miles and miles and miles of awesome isolated and relatively unused river bottom. It's a freakin' paradise...

Re: Snakes on my Brain

I think it's just that they are very near their den site where many of them have holed up for the winter. Since they are cold blooded I don't see how hanging in a big mass would make them any warmer,...

Re: Pike on the Big Horn

He did keep it.

We've been having pike issues on the lower ends of the forks of the Missouri as well. While I haven't landed one I'm pretty sure I've been cut off on the lower Gallatin and Jeff....

That's hilarious.
Looks like he might have just been able to reach you.

I love bull snakes (That's the common name in Montana), they don't tolerate any messing around. The big ones can be pretty...

Re: Snakes on my Brain

Those timber rattlesnakes are just beautiful as are copperheads.

That baby hog-nose is awesome as well.
We have western hog-noses in Montana but I've never found one. I sure would like to.

A...

Re: Reels for the Long rods ?

You really shouldn't have to get a different reel for just changing out shooting heads.
If the scandi fits the skagit should be close to fitting as well, it does on all my reels.
If it doesn't it...

Re: General Discussion for Smallmouth

Smallies are so much fun, and stupid.

I've been having a great time dragging the raft back to Minnesota in the summertime and exploring the rivers there and in Wisco.

Can't wait to come back...

Re: General Discussion for Smallmouth

I typically use a 6wt for poppers and smaller divers.
I use an 8wt for everything else.

Like the crayfish pattern, looks simple but effective.

Re: Help choosing a line for my rod

Yes it will be fine.

Rio recommends 500-550 grain skagit for that rod.

Also you will be just fine with a skagit head for what you want to do. I think it's the best choice.

And finally,...

I'm going to give him a pass..he will no doubt be relieved to hear...
