Re: Scottsdale in February

I've fished the Salt that time of year. It's stocked for trout but you would have to look up the schedule. I've actually caught pretty decent bass in there as well and seen a lot of carp.

Re: Montana State University

You scored an epic exchange....congrats.

I'm with Dhayden and use a 4wt often. That or a 7wt for chucking streamers which I find myself doing the majority of the time now. Lots of guys use 8wts...

Re: Something to Think About

The financing from fly fishing brands doesn't bother me because I would prefer that then see some up and coming film makers eat up their life savings to finance a project that most likely won't earn...

Re: Something to Think About

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with this respectfully. I don't really see how one could look cynically at this project. This is the extended trailer to a yet to be finished film. I've had a...

Re: Tom Morgan selling some acreages….I wish!

I love that drive and do it often. Really pretty country…..but that seems like an awful lot for 10 acres. That being said I'm sure someone will pay it. I'd probably list it for more.

Re: Which common flies don't work for you?

Muddler minnows. I have half a box full of them that collect dust. Never had much luck with them.

Re: Late Dec trip in AZ : Lees Ferry or White Mountains?

I imagine someone local will comment but I think your going to be pretty limited on options in the White's. I've skied there right around new years so I imagine the reservoirs are froze solid by...

Re: 6wt or 7wt Streamer Rod for Northeast Trout?

I run a 6wt with a sink tip when I'm wade fishing and throwing articulated flies. Then I have a 7wt with a 280 grain line when throwing large streamers from the boat. Pro's and con's to each but if...

Re: Big Weather change

I've only fished it in the early summer but there are a lot of browns in that river. If it were me, this time of year, I would throw some large streamers. Especially on a cloudy day or just before...

Re: Rainbow Trout Pics

Brown trout are my thing but I was skunked this weekend in that department. Fortunately I stumbled upon a couple Rainbows.

Re: So you have never fished Lee's Ferry?

Getting towed up and then spending a couple days working your way down camping out would be a fun trip. A jet boat really scares the fish off the beds so creeping on them with a drift boat would be...

Re: So you have never fished Lee's Ferry?

To my knowledge you can't get a drift boat in to float the Ferry. I believe there is an access point up at the dam that allows kayakers or tubers to get on the water and make the long float down but...

Re: Ross Momentum LT #5 squeak!

I get a little squeak now and then on my Ross Evolutions. When I do I just put a bit of lithium grease on the shaft of the reel and it always takes care of the problem. Worth a try.

Re: December Trip

I would classify the San Juan as moderately technical if there is such a thing. My experience has been using very small nymphs and requiring a perfect dead drift. Once you get it dialed in you'll...

Re: December Trip

I would throw Navajo Dam, on the San Juan on the table. Shouldn't be overly crowded that time of year. We use to attack it via Phoenix when my brother lived there and usually in the winter. Long...

Re: Hello from the banks of the Yellowstone River

John,

Welcome to the forum. When you get back in the spring let me know if you want to do a float. Always nice to find extra people to split time on the oars.

Re: thinking to venture to the ultralight rod category

I think you will really enjoy a 1wt on small streams and I think the idea of the TFO Finesse is a good option. They occasionally pop up on Ebay in your price range. I have a Sage TXL 1wt that I...

Jim

It really is an outstanding book. It should be required reading in high school. Or at least I think I benefited more from it then the Great Gatsby.

I'm with you Fred on heading West. I...

Re: Yellowstone Park beginning to 'rock and roll?'

I actually pondered the ramifications of a Yellowstone eruption after reading about it in "A short history of nearly everything". However, I just spent a couple hours with a 1wt on the East Gallatin...

Somewhere...

Re: Z-Axis versus One versus Scott Radian...

Im in that camp. Although fairly different rods I have the Z-axis in 6wt and just picked up the One in 7wt for streamer fishing. I really like the One for chucking large articulated flies but I...

Re: Fl keys trip

Looks like a good trip. The first time in the salt is a real eye opener. Sounds like you did pretty well hooking some tarpon. The next trip will be much easier.

Hope you enjoyed fishing with...

Is it streamer season yet?

Set out wet wading this afternoon, instead of floating, with the intentions to only fish streamers. These four came out of one run. Instead of fishing tell dark I went home early not wanting to...
