Re: Ross Evolution and Zenith

The colors in the pictures online are often difficult to really see clearly. All I can say is that the Galvan that I got on eBay is a perfect match. Keep looking on eBay if color is important to...

Re: Ross Evolution and Zenith

Try the "bronze" Galvan Torque. It's almost a perfect color match.

Re: G.Loomis to Sage?

It's funny that you should raise the option of switching from Loomis to Sage: I've been doing the exact opposite. Over the last 5 years all I've bought have been Loomis rods, including a 9' 4wt IMX,...

Cortland Classic 444 Whisper Double Taper

Sierra Trading Post has a sale on this line, although they apparently only have the 7 weight remaining in stock. I currently have the old 444 DT7F on my 7 weight rod, and I like it very much--so...

Re: Loomis NRX LP?

I have the 9' 4 wt NRX LP and the 9' 5 wt NRX LP. I love them both, but I think they are best suited to dry fly fishing. They can handle a nymph rig or a streamer, but this is not their strong suit.

Re: Well I did it again...

The Litespeed's greatest virtue is its light weight. However, this is also its greatest drawback, in my opinion, since in order to achieve the lightness, they had to reduce the thickness of the...

When it comes to reels, lighter is better.

"Fast action" vs "Stiff"

I am confused by these two terms. How are they related, if at all?

Thanks

WF7F for Pike

I am going to try my hand at fly fishing for pike next month, and I need some advice on lines suitable for casting big (4-6 inch) pike streamers. I am looking at a good deal ($45) for a RIO Pike line...

Re: Loomis.....losing fans and market share?

I disagree with the premise of this thread. I personally have bought 3 Loomis rods in the last year, and given the good press that their NRX and NRX LP rods are getting, I think that Loomis'...

Re: Line for a Loomis NRX 9' 7 wt rod

I will use it in fresh water, throwing streamers into the Wyoming wind in search of larger trout in lakes and reservoirs. This will entail longer casts (i.e., longer than the length of the head of...

Line for a Loomis NRX 9' 7 wt rod

I just got a new 9' 7 wt Loomis NRX and I'm trying to figure out what kind of line it likes best. So far, I like the way it casts a true 7 wt double taper line. I think that my liking is due to the...

Re: How many fish will I loose when......

My understanding is that barbless hooks reduce catch rates by about 15%. As noted above, there is no difference in mortality rates for fish caught on barbed or barbless hooks.

This is an...

I have both the Hardy Zenith and the Loomis NRX LP in a 9' 4wt configuration. They are both wonderful rods, but I use them for different purposes. The NRX is a wonderful rod with an action that...

Hardy Zenith 7 weight

I have seen lots of reviews and comments on the lighter Zeniths (e.g., the 4 and 5 weight rods), but I can't find much about the performance of the 7 weight rods. Can anyone comment on the 9' 7 wt or...

Re: Advice on a WF7F line

I used some of the advice that Silver offered, and came to a pretty good outcome, I think. I had an old DT7F line that was wearing out on one end and that was ready to be reversed. I cut 25 feet off...

Re: Hardy Viscount Disc LA

This reel arrived yesterday. It is a VERY solid piece of gear. So solid that it weighs over 6 ounces. I now understand why Hardy didn't make it for too long: there can't be a very large market...
