Re: 2013 5-Weight Shootout

I looked at the shoot-out, and think George is all over the place with his opinions. The Circa is too soft, but scored higher than the ONE which he also said was too soft...???? The praise he heaped...

Re: 2013 Swap #3 : Clouser Style Flys

Hi Boz,
Well.... If you only caught 4 Peacock Bass, then my head would explode. :D I hope you caught fifty. ;)

Re: 2013 Swap #3 : Clouser Style Flys

I have a modesty award already, and have only myself to thank....LOL! Seriously, Swirlchaser's report deserves an award. That's great stuff.

Re: 2013 Swap #3 : Clouser Style Flys

NICE! I was going to do a test exactly like this, and will. ;) My fly catching the big one isn't surprising. There are some people I'd like to thank before accepting the award..... :D

Re: 2013 Swap #3 : Clouser Style Flys

Speaking of temperature, it's in the upper 70's here!

I forgot to thank John for putting this all together. You're one of the good ones. ;)

Re: 2013 Swap #3 : Clouser Style Flys

I like to use smaller flies, so this worked out great for me. I was afraid of getting a dozen 8 inch Clousers. :D

Re: What are you cleaning, polishing, 'greasing' your line with?

Yvonne and I are on vacation this week, and stopped at the local lake. It's been pretty gross for the past two years (like standing in a toilet!!!), so I'll be cleaning everything tonight. It's hard...

Re: 2013 Swap #3 : Clouser Style Flys

My package of flies came in today's mail. They're all nice, and some are REALLY nice. I thought I was tying small Clousers, but mine might be among the largest. :D

Re: What are you cleaning, polishing, 'greasing' your line with?

Fly line manufacturers like Scientific Anglers, Rio, and maybe Cortland claim to use high-tech coatings on their modern lines, and I never noticed any sinking tips on the newer products, with or...

Re: What are you cleaning, polishing, 'greasing' your line with?

Wow! I just realized that I went from religiously cleaning and dressing my lines (3M dressing), to not cleaning them at all.:D The stream I fished last year is pretty clean, and I just stopped...

Re: Introductions/streamers

Wooly Buggers are my main fly. I tie my own flies, and sometimes they float to high even with weight added. Marabou will sink eventually, but saliva gets them down more quickly. I add weight to the...

Re: Custon Sage Light Line Eddie Bauer Limited Edition?

Give Sage a call. Sometimes a rep for one company was a rep for a different company last week. ;) I bet if Sage had anything to do with it, they'll get back to you with a solid answer.

Re: Is it really worth it ?

I worked in retail, and was co-owner of a bicycle shop. I can't do apples to apples when talking about bikes shops and fly shops, however. We were able to keystone items like locks, pumps, racks,...

Re: 4 wt reel

Depends.... I fish a 4wt most of the year, and catch quite a few decent stream smallmouth with it. This time of the year, the bruisers are pretty hungry, so I've been using my 5wt Z-Axis (plenty of...

Re: Is it really worth it ?

I agree with Ard, Paul. Your house is very nice! Nobody will say you live in a trailer now....not that I thought you did....and not that the member who implied that did either. [poke] :D Seriously,...

Re: Is it really worth it ?

I forget who posted they feel different, but the more expensive rods I've tried do feel better (at least the ones I bought after trying). My bank account wishes this weren't so, but 'tis. ;)

Re: Relationship Advice

Having had a bike shop, I can assure you that women DO care about the appearance of their outdoor gear. :D Color is everything, so choose the reel that matches the rod best, or the color she seems to...

Re: Tenkara Forum?

I posted here before about visiting my son at Dover Air Force base, and forgetting my rod and reel. His house was near a bass pond, and they were popping everywhere! I did have my vest hanging on the...

Re: Nymph fishing without indicators

Charles Ritz writes about fishing with Frank Sawyer (inventor of the Pheasant Tail Nymph), and says that he marvelled at Sawyer's ability to SEE a trout take a nymph. Sawyer watched the tip of his...

Re: Tenkara Forum?

Well....I was kidding in all of my previous posts, at least for the most part. On a serious note, who is the target audience for Tenkara, and how much needs to be discussed? If it's beginners looking...

Re: Frustrating time casting my new rod

I glanced over all of the other comments, and here's my advice. Get all the split shot off the line, and cast with a short leader and tuft of yarn. Start at shorter ranges, and work your way out...

Re: Tenkara Forum?

When I was 7-10 years old, my mother used to buy rods that were made of bamboo sections. When fitted together, they were fairly long. The kit included a line that attached to a wire loop at the tip...

Good tip! It looks like all of their Sage rods are on sale. Just go to the drop down windows on the left of the page linked, and pick "4 weight", etc, and other Sage rods will appear.

Re: Diamondback Rod Company

I bought a Diamondback Aeroflex from a shop on closeout, and a couple from Cortland's factory store. Before buying the factory store rods, I called the repair dept at Diamondback/Cortland, and spoke...
