Most are longer as the extra leverage helps protect the lighter lines. Honestly I've used my 10' Echo in streams from 40' wide down to 5' wide. When I was dabbling in Keiyu I used a 7m (~23') rod...

Nice to see another Iowan, I did have to Google Orange City to figure out where it was. Roll casting with a 3 is a bit tricky I've done it so much easier with a 5wt though.

North and South Bear are loaded with fish and lots of trails to walk and lots of wading that can be done. There are other streams in the area to visit as well but there is plenty of good water at...

I wouldn't be surprised, I know there are smallies in several creeks the problem has been getting a way to cast as some are so overgrown access is almost impossible.

Ahhh wish there were fly shops here. Though I have found a couple that provide quality flies and they give lots of info as well when asked questions.

I've just been going out and praciting my casting mostly. Scoping out as many places as I can trying to find some good panfish haunts. In mid August I think I'll be hosed close to home as they plan...

Also don't be afraid to look at the Airflo Polyleaders of the Rio VersiLeaders same concept different company. I just recently started using them and they work great for getting down in the water...

My recommendation is the Cortland Competition Nymph. Very limber line that casts well even with a long leader setup.

Swapping them for the new Big Bug version figured I didn't need to keep them all. Once I get the new one and see how it looks I may part with a few more Tackys if they fit my sling.
