Re: Reel Recommendation for 7wt Rod

I find my Nautilus FW is so light that it just can't balance a 9' rod well enough for me. If you decide on a 10' rod I would look elsewhere for sure. I have come to appreciate the slight heft of my...

Re: What ever happened to Sharkskin?

Wal-Mart is an evil corporation, and I'll pay more to not shop there.

Thats very true but their business mind set is shared by every other big box store that tries to copy them, including Bass...

Re: Loomis.....losing fans and market share?

No I hate Pure Fishing. Abu died just as Hardy will die very soon. I collect relic's of a bygone day. Relics from a family owned business not a conglomerate. Shimano=Wal-Mart in their strategy. ...

Re: Loomis.....losing fans and market share?

As a collector of everything Abu,true Borgstrom family owned Abu, I am as certain that Pure Fishing will destroy what we now know as Hardy, as I am certain that I am an old man! As far as Loomis, I...

Re: Any peacock bass in port charlotte area?

I somehow missed this post, sorry. Are you still looking for info? The Ohara area canals hold snook and baby tarpon. Just a 5 minute drive away from The Rays Stadium, the area behind it is a State...

Re: Kayak fishers, I'd like your opinion.

Being able to stand and sit go a long way towards comfort. The Hobie and Native pedal mechanisms change your sitting posture. Just watching folks in those makes me cringe. The seat back is angled...

Re: Kayak fishers, I'd like your opinion.

Aren't the 2 you mentioned hybrid boards? Not so hot for rivers. All the rage here on the flats until a snowbird flips you with their unmannerly high speed wake. My OK Drifter is an ancient...

Re: nautilus fwx 5/6 reel

Flygrain, what a great experience! I have had a FW7 for many years and it has handled many Snook, Reds, Jack and small Tarpon. It is still as smooth as new. It demands a light rod to balance well.

Re: Wristwatches What You Wear And Why

I successfully kicked my watch obsession and new car disease cold turkey when my daughter was diagnosed with lymphoma. But I've managed to hold on to a Hamilton Khaki Automatic with a olive drab mil...

Re: warmwater pics

I can get overwhelming. Starting the first fly was daunting to me. But to catch fish, and a mess of them to enjoy on the dinner table, all caught on something you made with your own hands is very...

Re: Reels and spare spools

I don't like carrying more than one outfit. Perhaps when I'm on a boat it would be more feasible. To me spare spools are much more logical, not that I'm compulsive but a diehard minimalist.

A Solitude 3 fly reel. Some recipes for a few tilapia flies would be great too.

Re: Dog breed for fishing trips

You guys are so lucky to live where there are seasons. Here in S. Fl. I cant take my dog with me for fear of alligators. They appear in any body of water no matter how small. 25 years ago a 5 year...

Re: What is important to you when buying gear?

More from Congress and NAFTA than from OSHA. Really its all our fault. We keep voting for them. Canadian made would be fine with me. To me its just sad. Things are either conglomerate made in...

Re: Port Charlotte/Venice?

Don't get to green, our fishing isn't what it used to be. Snook are in the bays and river mouth. You could find them in the intercoastal along the greenbelt park and the bridge just on Venice...

Re: What is important to you when buying gear?

First and foremost is durability and reliability. I want tough even though I baby my gear. Weight takes a back seat to quality. American or European made is preferred. Korea as an ally is o.k....

Re: Your Favorite Rod, Cosmetically Speaking

I am not certain which rod I consider attractive except I have a preference towards many fiberglass rods.
But I know what I don't like. First and foremost Sage's notion of a Bass rod. Close behind...

Re: Tarpon!!bass!!! Panfish!! Anything!!!

It always amazes me how many non residents proclaim Fl. to be a land of fish! It certainly was when I was a kid but that was a long time ago. Fishing is sporadic at best in Fl. even for bait...

Re: Over or under lining a rod, what are the advantages and disadvantages?

I find underlining to have been useful for me. It helps me slow down as I seem to always be forcing or I should say rushing my forward cast. I've also read that it can be better in high winds to...

I think you ought to check out a stripers specific forum like sol for some reel advise. I've read a lot of comments about Lamsons rusting around the drag components from saltwater use. I've also...

Re: Reel help

I cant imagine not having a reel with a serious drag and I target saltwater fish considered not as hard running as a striper. To me a reel is forever, a rod can break and isn't. I always spend more...

Re: Bay Area Surf fishing

I love Old Florida Reels! Hard to find anymore. I've been fascinated about surf perch since reading an article on them in Fly Fishing in Saltwaters years ago.
