Re: Just Curious: How Many Fly Rods Do you Own

I just noticed this thread has 267 posts and over 14,000 views.

While I'm sure the two are close... This thread may have more posts than the one about Abel Nippers! :D

Re: Reel weight for a TFO BVK 904-8

This is likely a thought you came up with a long time ago.

Have you tried wearing a brace? They have some pretty good ones that aren't too restrictive.

Re: Redington CT 865 / Cabelas RLS 864

Before you let go of any rods, think about your son and the rods you have. The CT's are great for kids (adults too). Having an extra/duplicate that your son could use would allow you to match both of...

Re: Is it worth the upgrade?

Join the fly club!

However, Don't buy any more gear until you learn to use what you already have. Just my opinion...

You don't have to ask. You've already got them from ALL of us. I'm saying a prayer for you and Debbi. Stay strong... We're here for you.

I did the same thing! My 11 year old can cast it pretty well too. :)

Re: It's dumb question time...

Brian & Robin,

I agree with you both. I usually buy a one size up reel myself. They are usually built just too light these days. In the case of a 7/8wt reel, the step from a 7 to an 8wt is...

Re: Redington Path vs Classic Trout?

Hi Brandon,

It's part of the Mastery Series. They have a standard non-textured, textured and Sharkwave version of the line. If you are trying to keep things affordable, just go with the...

Re: It's dumb question time...

Thanks S&S!

Sounds like good advice. Had I known I would own 9 different fly reels, I think I would have bought two of the big rolls also. I may have to consider consider this for the future.

Yes, it does. My vote is that you take sweetandsalt's advice. It's what I would do. :)

Re: Fly Shops

The only shopping I ever did with Allen was to purchase a Kraken reel. I'll be testing it on steelhead this weekend, assuming I am lucky enough to catch one.

I can't tell you if I...

Re: Redington Path vs Classic Trout?

The SA trout taper is the best line I know of for that rod. A true to weight line is exactly what that rod needs.

Congrats on the new rod! :)

Re: Reel weight for a TFO BVK 904-8

Hi Robin,

I'm sorry no one has responded to your question. I would have thought someone would have chimed in by now.

While I am not one of the resident experts in this sort of thing, here's...

Re: Is it worth the upgrade?

Mikey could be on to something here. I had a similar experience with a Redington starter fly line a few years ago. The Orvis Hydros lines (a step up from Access) are being closed out at half price at...

Re: It's dumb question time...

I agree with you 100%. I bought the Reel-e-good line winder. It does a good job and had all the attachments if you want to go a little crazy like I did. ;)

+1 to what Siege said. Go to the FFF website and see if you can find a club nearby, TU too. If you complete the free online Cabelas fly fishing university, they will give you a free membership to one...

Re: Best online fly shop

You are doing good things for good reasons and tying quality flies at a price that can't be beat! Everyone here, unless they tie their own flies should be supporting you. :)

Re: Narrowed to three rods, does it matter?

Interesting comment... I own the 8.5' 5wt CT. I was out casting with my son. He was casting the CT, I a Zenith 6wt. In helping him, I had the opportunity to cast them both side by side. While the CT...

Re: More on UV vision and fly tying materials in trout.

What is a UV absorbing sunscreen?

EDIT: Did I just ask a dumb question? :o Do you mean sunscreen = suntan lotion to demonstrate that an Adams fly already has UV attributes to it?
