Re: Pros and cons of soft hackle "feathers"?

Partridge has a nice barring in the feathers... Gives it a nice buggy look... You can also find feathers small enough to tie to about #18...

India hen I like using for bigger patterns though you...

Re: Pros and cons of soft hackle "feathers"?

Don't waste money on loose Hungarian feathers... You'll find a couple that'll be fine and many that are worthless... Go with a skin...

There's also starling which is good for tiny wets... Pheasant...

Re: Steelhead Fly Swap 2015

Finally finished flies for this swap. Had to change pattern as I just didn't have enough time in my schedule to commit to such a laborious pattern. So I tied up some of John Barr's Bouface

Re: Musky on a Fly

I used a FF109 when I went muskie fishing... It throws a 9/10 with ease... But I even had to put it down for a bit... Surprisingly it didn't land me a muskie... Rather my ff85 with a smallie fly...

Re: Musky on a Fly

Wealthy people? Haha that's funny. I don't make it rain. I make it hail. Unfortunately the ladies don't like it when you throw pennies at them.

Re: Musky on a Fly

Seems like an unrealistic compromise... It's like saying you want to buy one rod to fish for bass and be able to ice fish too... So you sit in your shanty with a 8' MH baitcaster... Not gonna cut it...

Re: Musky on a Fly

It's really not the casting that's gonna get to you... It's all the figure 8s that really work the arm... I'd get a 10wt still and just work on efficient casting... Like Ted said LOTW is monster...

Re: Anyone have experience with the Wholesale Fly Company?

Great website and fast shipping. I've noticed their beadheads tarnish easily but I love their coneheads and dumbbells. I've yet to check out their new tungsten beads yet. Their tools are also nice...

Re: Best way to tie a woolly bugger?

Chinese hackle very hit or miss... Open packs find the pack with the best feathers. You can also buy Whiting bugger packs but you're looking at $20 each... So it's up to you

Re: 19 Days Until Wisconsin Opener

He's not worried about the regulations... He's just interested in freeing up the land to frac miners, railroads and the Koch brothers... I'm ready to move back to Minnesota... Why I ever thought...

Re: 19 Days Until Wisconsin Opener

Oh yes the typical "regulations are too complex" argument. When I was in Michigan I picked up my license at the ol Little Sack. Within the whole 5 minutes it took me to read the trout regulations...

Re: Do you like "opening day"?

Opener just means that the big holes under the bridges are occupied by more bucket sitters than any other open season day. If you walk a half mile you'll likely be by yourself. Most of them are too...

Re: Finally got around to tying a couple things...

I tie a majority of my squirrels with chenille. Mainly because they work just fine that way. I've also used pink dubbing and that works too.

Re: 19 Days Until Wisconsin Opener

It's all water. It'd be a pain in the butt if it was only selected waters. Look at the Wisconsin trout map sometime. Looks like a 5yo went crazy with a couple crayons. WIDNR more or less has...

Re: Reddington butter stix vs echo glass

I also suggest the CGR. At least start there. Cabelas has a great no questions asked return policy. Order one up. Line it up and cast it. If you don't like it. Send it back and keep looking. But...

Re: A.K. Best's top 25?

Flies that are pretty are intended to catch one thing... The person buying them. Ugly bugs catch fish.

I'm sure there's 100s of people Gierach has known that tie flies. Simple fact is clearly AK...

Re: Is it possible to get away from people in Ohio?

Didn't a river in Ohio once start on fire? That's pretty much enough evidence for myself to never live in Ohio.
