Re: Any fish in the Kings River near Reedley?

Try the parks up below the dam, Choinumni and Winton for trout. The upper Kings should be fishing good.

Re: Need Last Minute Advice on a Northern California trip

The Lower Sacramento up in Redding has been fishing well. They have been lowered the flows to 4500 cfs and that has opened up a lot of water to wading. The salmon are beginning to spawn and the egg...

Re: Rod preference and when you started fishing.

Just wanted to point out a couple of things. First, carbon is graphite. Second, 1980 to 1990 was when rod builders began to use carbon fiber to build rods. The have learned a lot...

Let me answer this mathematically:

x = Quantity of fly reels currently in possession

Re: How do you weigh a fish?

An alternative method is to use a measuring tape and use this formula:

WEIGHT= 20 x (12²) / 740
WEIGHT= 20 x 144 / 740
WEIGHT= 2880 / 740

Re: Snakes!?!?

It pays to keep your wits about you. I have encountered many snakes while fishing. A long time ago I was fishing an old quarry near the San Joaquin below Friant Dam. The banks were steep and brush...

Re: Fluro tippits in freshwater?

I'll second Vanish. It works fine for me and is comparatively inexpensive. Fishing for trout in clear water I believe it helps.

Re: Closest place to Oklahoma for some steelhead ?

I'll try to explain it from a different perspective. It's a process thing. Steelhead either are there, or they aren't. When they are present, they may or may not want to play. The conditions may...

Re: What weight fly rod

My two cents, I hooked a 35 lb king on the Navarro river at its lowest flow one late October about 30 years ago. I was hoping to hook a steelhead and I reasoned the river was flowing about 30 cfs...

Re: Utah, Idaho (Driggs) trip advice

I hired a guide to learn the Juan. The fish up in the quality waters eat really small bugs, mostly midges. If you are not going to buy some flies from a shop there, I would tie some red,...

Re: Chasing the Ozy Salmon.

Congregating seals have heralded the return of salmon and steelhead since I can remember. They are the least of our concern. The big threats are dams and clearcutting the tribs.
