Re: So evidiently I can tie game changers really well but can't fish them....

What kind of line did you have spooled up on both outfits? Big, water retaining streamers imo need a short heavy head to turn them over and get them into the target zone quickly.

On my 7/8wt. I...

Re: My streamers won't swim or orient the way I want them.

Like Rip said... use a non-slip loop knot. This should take care of the "sideways" problem. As far as your streamers swimming "wrong side down", without enough caffeine in me and without a picture...

Re: Streamer junkies!

Indeed is really good stuff. Roll casts better than anything else I have tried, including Rio Outbound short. I have been either using a 9' Rio "Bass" leader 10lb. or a Rio Versi-Tip sinking leader...

Re: Crayfish Patterns?

Larry, that is a small lobster.

Our Ozark waters are full of crayfish. This is what I am tying up these days. I am hoping that the jig hook and dumb bell eyes makes this sit like a real craw in...

Re: What have you been tying today?

Yes it is "Cheech's Low Fat Minnow". I take absolutely NO credit for this design whatsoever.

Re: Itch's Trip Report

Itchy,

Looks cold, but good. It's been awhile since I was there but I really miss it. That Leprechaun was a little creepy. I hope they drink Fat Cow for St. Patty's day up there.

Re: Kabuto Glass rods

I owned a rod built on a 7'3 Kabuto blank. To me it was on the fast side of glass. Too fast, as it seemed to really like a 4wt. line in my hands. I have heard that the 8'0 5wt. is the sweetheart...

Notellum Creek -- Jewel of the Ozarks

This is one of our wild trout streams. It can get real skinny in the summer months. We just had our own version of "Spring run off" followed by short, intense and steady gully washer. I got there at...

Re: Getting a 3 weight for streams and creeks. Fiberglass vs graphite

I have personally not fished a graphite stick (3wt. or under) that has has loaded or felt loaded with its' designated line weight on it. There may be rods out there that do, but I haven't cast them....

Welcome to the forum.

+1 on what everyone else said here. I personally don't fish the Roaring River, but what I have read is sound advice. Presentation trumps fly selection in most instances.

Re: Fly rod brand of choice: Bamboo rods

I chose "other". The reason being is that I am thinking of acquiring my first cane rod and there is a very, very good husband/wife team here in town (Tufts & Batson). I can handle, inspect various...

Re: My grandfathers J.C. Higgins 312.31130

Not trying to respond in a flippant manner, but you may want to buy a scale or take it to the post office or even the grocery store to get the weight.
