Re: orvis henrys fork 586-2

That's still the same external sleeve ferrule as used for decades. The sanded top portion of the butt does give the illusion of a spigot ferrule, though.

Re: cameras

Bruce,
The specs for the XP80 look more than adequate for great fly photos. It may not pull in as tight on tiny flies as some other cameras, but you have enough resolution to crop and still end up...

Re: cameras

Almost every picture I've posted on various boards over the years has been taken on a 5.0MP Cybershot from 2003/4 or its 7.2MP Cybershot replacement from 2007. The latter, despite being a lower...

Re: Orvis Western rod

The 8-1/2ft #6 "Limestone" was among several original ("full flex") Orvis models with the same stated weight as the Western 2wt in question.

Same components on both series. And same...

Re: Orvis Western rod

The Western series was an offshoot of the original graphite series (which were still in production at that time). The Western models were beefed up for a slightly faster (or rather stiffer) feel than...

Re: inline rotary vs. just rotary vises

You said you're looking to get into fly tying this winter. I take it you've never tied a fly.

Are you thinking about taking fly tying lessons, such as those offered at a nearby fly shop?

I ask...

Re: Thread Size Question and Hooks

If you look at the egg fly, you'll see the thread, if visible at all, is hardly so.

GSP thread is readily colored with permanent marker. So if you want to use 50 denier, it's not a problem.

Re: Abel 4.5 question

I'm curious if it has something to do with the o-ring (on the spindle) possibly binding between the spool bearing and the drag plate bearing. I doubt your original setup had this o-ring.

Too bad the titles you suggested aren't available for this deal. Great offer, though slim selection.

Re: Peak Vise Set Screws won't hold

As stated by Jeepster and pfm, and as evidenced at Peak's site and elsewhere, hex drive set screws are used on the base and riser.

Re: My Grandfather's Fly Rod

Budget and proposed use?

At the conservative end, a Pflueger Medalist 1498 would match up. While it's not a Bogdan, it offers a traditional look and is true to the vintage. An excellent++ to...

Re: 9 foot vs 8 1/2 foot 5 weight?

It's only six inches. I don't think that amounts to an appreciable difference to the average angler in most situations. A length difference of 12"+, yes. If you're debating between two rods of the...

Re: Orvis Superfine Carbon 7'4wt have a question

I see it differently. My position is that a rod's action is built into it by way of its taper, wall thickness, and materials, primarily. Moving away from the rod's designated line rating may...

Re: Wanted: Norvise system

I checked my spare set of Norvise mounting bolts for you. The bolts appear to be 1/4-20, since they match the mount the camera. So you want a 1/4" dia hole to clear the bolt threads.

Re: Schlappen vs Saddle Hackle

Schlappen is all "web." The individual barbules are always super soft in texture and want to "marry" adjacent barbules when they come into contact.

Strung rooter saddle varies in characteristics...
