Re: Float Tube recommendations?

I have the Fish Cat 4, it's a good tube. The Cumberland float tube, I think it's made by Classic Accessories, gets great reviews. I've never used it myself but would look closely if I needed a new...

Re: Loop to Loop connection Leader or nail knot

My personal assessment of the various methods I've used:

Pre-manufactured nylon loop attachment to fly line: works OK generally, I'd say its a pretty good solution for most if your line doesn't...

Re: Best knot, tippet to fly

Give the Palomar a try, but if you change flies with any regularity, I expect you'll find it uses too much tippet and it probably isn't practical on small flies/ small hook eyes. I used the improved...

Re: LM Bass rig

A 7 or 8 wt would making casting big bugs easier, and you might enjoy getting a new outfit. Another option to consider is to buy a larger line first, your 6 wt rod will probably cast a 7 wt line...

Re: What did you catch this weekend?

I got out once this weekend for a few hours. It was really crowded out there, no surprise I suppose, lots of fishing boats and a ton of ski boats. I was doing battle in my float tube.... At any...

Re: New to Bass Fishing

I've been catching some good size bass recently on light tackle, 3 and 4 wt. I was pan fishing with smallish flies and to my surprise the bass were willing takers. I did up my tippet to 2x or 3x and...

PB LMB on Fly

I was out on the CA Delta today in my float tube dodging ski boats. Took my 4 wt and was having a good time throwing small flies for gills, redear, and hopefully a few LMB. Was about done for the...

Re: What have you been tying today?

I posted a thread with pics elsewhere on the forum of some 3wt panfishing I've been doing this spring. I've been having a blast with it, and to my surprise its been much more effective for all kinds...

Re: 3wt or 4wt for bluegill.

I have both 3 and 4 wt rods and lines. My 3 wt is a 7.5' while my 4's are 8.5', and the 3 wt feels a lot smaller/lighter, its a great rod for bluegill and small bass (I posted something on this in...

Re: 3 wt Joystick

I went back yesterday and fished a while longer, and while I caught some bass again, this was the fish of the day, a pig red ear. As you can see, she's about 11" long and look at the belly, must be...

3 wt Joystick

I did something today I haven't done for nearly 40 years, I went bluegill fishing. I've caught bluegills in recent years, but only when when bass fishing with poppers. So today I went out to the...

Re: Float tube--convince me.

Yes, an anchor will help you out a lot in the wind. I'd recommend getting a 1.5 or 2 lb anchor and keep it in your tube's pocket. I only use it if it gets VERY windy or I get tired after a long day...

I had one close encounter with a rattler some years ago when fishing Putah Creek here in NorCal. While moving upstream along the bank I noticed one sunning himself about 3' from where I was...

Re: Float tube--convince me.

I agree with with what others have posted about float tubes. I think they'd be an ideal way to fish small ponds/lakes (I use mine mostly on some very big waters here in CA). One really nice feature...

Re: Fishing Chironomids - 04/19/2015

I love fishing chironomids at my favorite trout lake (Lake Davis) here in California. I fish them under bobbers sometimes too, but the method I've had a lot of luck with is a fishing them with a 9'...

Re: Fish Stillwaters Alone or with Fishing buddys??

I prefer to fish with someone for safety reasons and to split the cost, but I go by myself a lot out of necessity. I have a 10' boat and two is a crowd in it; float tubing with a buddy works great,...

Re: Maybe I'll Keep Working....

I took a box of flies, nipper, and some tippet. My fishing bud provided the rest of the gear so I didn't have to drag it along. We caught them all on skinny water type clousers (bead chain eyes,...

Maybe I'll Keep Working....

OK, I've been traveling to Singapore several times a year for business, for the last 15 years or so. Its a killer trip, was just there, 19 hours in the air in addition to one lay-over, 16 hour time...

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

I had two, a 8.5' 4 wt (2 piece) and a 9' 5wt (four piece). Love the 4 wt, never cared for the 5 wt. The quality is very good, both are mod/fast action at most, and for lake fishing I thought the 5...

Re: First attempt at deer hair

Forget about golf, fishing and tying are a lot more fun. I think your fly is a great first effort. Not sure what the hook size is but that fly will catch bass no problem. A few comments suggestion...
