Re: Redington predator for smallies and st criox high stick drifter

I cant help you with the SC but I do have a Predator, which is 7'10",not 7'.Its a pretty specialized rod but works very well for what its designed for.A sz 2 streamer would be no problem for that...

Re: Custom Sage Eddie Bauer Limited Edition LL 590-3

Here is my experience with Sage's warrenty.Three years ago I broke the tip section of my 890-4 RPL,a rod I had built 20+ years before.I sent it back to Sage and they matched it up with a new blank...

Re: Custom Sage Eddie Bauer Limited Edition LL 590-3

About 15 years ago the Eddie Bauer store where I lived got rid of all their rods and some other gear. They had 2 Sage RPL rods left, both marked "custom made for Eddie Bauer by Sage"and both rods,a 4wt...

Re: 9' 8-weight versus 11' 8-weight (switch)?

If this rod is going to be used for bonefish, redfish or any other situation where sight fishing is the norm, then you dont want a long switch rod. They are not used for accurate pin point casting.You...

Re: Glass rods ?

I own a handful of glass rods and enjoy them. They take me back to my roots as a kid.Much more forgiving than my graphite rods, although I love them too.For short line fishing, glass is superior to...

Re: Fly fishing near around Rehoboth Beach, DE?

I wade the flats around the pier often and it can be good at times.Clousers and decievers will pick up trout, flounder, stripers, and blues.Later on the croakers show up but most are on the small side.I...

Re: Scott fly rod parts

Just send it back to Scott.I sent my 8wt Heli-ply back a year ago for a broken tip and had it back within a month. Not only did I get a new tip but Scott replaced the ferules and rewrapped the mid...

Re: Need help: Strategy session for very weedy local pond/lake

If you are finding bass in the shallows,I would be throwing some bendback streamers.Either tie some up or order some in sizes and colors of the local minnows.Usually gray/white or olive/white will...

Re: 8WT Rod Suggestion

An 8wt rod is an 8wt rod.Just pick one that matches your casting style and use it for anything you want.I would choose a SH rod as the best all around choice.Im a little older so I grew up before we...

Re: Looking for Bass Rod

I also have and fish a 6wt Redington Predator and love it.Its really a 7wt rod,not a 6wt and will lay out long cast easily and very accurately.Nice to fish from a canoe.Truth is any rod from 8' to 9'...

Re: Best Bass Bug Line.

Yea,I also like the Wulff bass taper line.Picked 1 up this year and it casts very nice. The Wulff SWT saltwater line works good too.Another line to look at is the Rio Clouser. They are nice casters.

Re: Fly Rod recommendations for bass???

I have probably caught more fish with a 9' 6wt than any other rod I own.Its as close to an all around rod as you could have. Its easily uplined with a 7wt to throw bigger stuff if needed.I fish mine...

Re: Clouser line and 9' 8 wt redington predator

I too find the SA Bass Bug to be kinda light for that rod.I cant help you with the Clouser line but I like the 8wt Wulff SWF floater. Its their saltwater line but works fine in freshwater.Really loads...

Re: what 6 weight for smallies

It really comes down to which rod you like casting best.SMB dont require anything special as far as tackle goes.Ive caught more on my old Sage 690 RPL than any other rod I own.I also fished a Loomis...

Re: Sage Bass rod

While I dont own the Sage bass rod,I do have a couple of Redington Predators, both 7'10".I fish the 6wt a lot with a 7wt line and it does fine.It will throw 30 to 50 ft of line easily. One thing you...

Re: Redington Predator 8 wt?

Im with BigCliff on this one.A 7wt is plenty of rod for what you want.I own the 6wt & 8wt Predators and the 8 is really overkill for bass. Its pretty stout and not very good at delicate...

Re: 7 weight ,350, 450 price rod ?

Another rod to consider is a 6wt Redington Predator. Its a short bass rod thats really a 7wt rod. They are a lot of fun to fish and have plenty of power in the butt. The Clouser rods from TFO and ST...

Re: Bass Leader

I do quite a bit of topwater bass and I use a straight piece of #15 mono about 6' long. The ponds I fish have lots of grass and pads so I dont want any knots in the leader other than the connections...

Re: Would you buy a SW line if.....

I pick my lines based on taper needed and not water type.I also take into consideration how much memory a line has.If you get a chance to pick up a good line on sale and it fits your needs,go ahead.

Re: Trout to Bass

I agree with the gurglers and a 6wt.I throw poppers 90% of the time but I use wolly buggers also.Black, white or olive all work and I tie most of them with estaz.Instead of marabou, tie some with...

Re: Help me Choose A Bass Rod

Its not so much a rod problem as it is a line problem.A 7wt line just doesnt have the mass to handle a 4/0 fly.If you uplined to an 8 or 9 line you might have a shot but it still wouldnt be pretty.A...

Re: Help me Choose A Bass Rod

You dont need a drag with bass. They dont make runs, just head for cover and slug it out close.I dont think I have ever put a bass on the reel, even big ones.I fish a Hardy Princess click/pawl reel on...

Re: Help me Choose A Bass Rod

This rod is really not a 6wt rod,IMHO,as it takes a 7wt line to load it.I usually upline my rods by 1 wt when fishing from my canoe because its easier to load the rod while seated. Most all rods can...

Re: Help me Choose A Bass Rod

The Predator will cast 50ft with no sweat. If the length is an issue I would look for something in the 8 1/2-9ft range.I have probably caught more SMB on my Sage 690 RPL than any other rod I own.TFO...
