Re: Measurements

Wow! I love those pictures, too. How long did the bird use your rod for a perch?

Re: Measurements

cochise: EXACTLY what I am talking about! I would just suck all of that in.

I have to say that I do love to catch fish, too, and it may be more fun when I do. Actually, when I catch a fish, it...

Re: Measurements

Thanks for all the responses, everybody. I especially liked Ard's story: it was the exact opposite of what I experienced but it is what it is.

I am glad that you all "got" what I was saying. ...

Re: Measurements

Exactly my point: The best fisherman is he who enjoys it. Imo Anyways.

Fishing is fun. Catching fish is fun. I guess my point is do we try to get "better" because it will make us enjoy it more...

"The Best Caster" thread caught my attention. I thought it was an interesting post. It went from asking if the best casters caught the most fish to what it is to be a good angler and/or a good fly...

Touché, silver. Touché. Thanks for the link to that thread. Most interesting. Oh, and thanks for probably the best piece of practical advice I had never thought of:

I am starting to see...

Re: Is it the pattern or the presentation??

Good information about dries, guys.

I have not been so great at getting dries to work on streams but I have a whole lot of fun catching blue gill with them. I know, I know: blue gills are...

Re: Is it the pattern or the presentation??

Thanks, oldtimer.

EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SAY!!

You expressed in a few words what I have been trying to say. By limiting your choices, you were forced to work harder at making the...

Re: Is it the pattern or the presentation??

Hello, silver,

You pose some very good questions and even better arguments. I had to re-read what I originally posted so I could fully wrap my head around it. I needed to remember why I posted...

Re: Is it the pattern or the presentation??

I agree. We have spoken before about Tenkara and the more I thought of it, the more I realized the fact that Tenkara "works" is precisely the thing that seems like a hindrance: you are constantly...

Is it the pattern or the presentation??

I have been doing a lot reading during these dark, damp, cold winter days and have read some interesting things. The more I read, the more I have been seeing a running theme that too many of us tend...

Re: Why does this always happen??

So, I gather that you think this is the first step to actually becoming a fly fisher, right? If I rack my noggin', it seems to me that this has been said by many of the best in here without really...

Why does this always happen??

Dang-gone wintertime. I don't mind the cold but it gets dark so blasted fast that there is no way I ever get time to go fishing. So what do I do? I surf the stupid Internet. I am constantly...

Re: How do you fish a Tenkara on still water?

Thanks, standman. Now you lead me to another question. (I am just full of them!)

Are you saying you just attach 20 feet of fluorocarbon to the rod? No other type of line? (Well, other...

Ain't that the truth! Happens to me all the time. Those buggers just swim around my feet laughing at me.

Re: How do you fish a Tenkara on still water?

:D That's me! I always make the simple seem hard. I am definitely going to give this Tenkara thing a shot. I may even try using a fly rod at first in a spot that I know I won't get snagged.

Re: How do you fish a Tenkara on still water?

Thanks for the information. You cleared up a lot of things about the retrieve. I was going to use it simply to float some foam bugs for bluegill but now you've got me thinking about more. I am...

Re: How do you fish a Tenkara on still water?

This may be a ridiculous question but can I simply use a fly rod and turn it into a Tenkara rod? Just tie the Tenkara leader to the top guide and give it a whirl?

I have a very "slow" 8-ft, 4-wt...

Re: How do you fish a Tenkara on still water?

Yes. I understand what you are saying about the rod. I was thinking about using a Cut Throat Tenkara leader on it. Would that work?

Thanks,
ray

Re: How do you fish a Tenkara on still water?

Thanks, William. That is what I was thinking: use the rod tip to control the fly. It's just how do I retrieve the fly on still water?

For now, I figure on just playing with it with bluegill and...

How do you fish a Tenkara on still water?

So, I saw a thread here talking about using Western flies or Tenkara files on a Tenkara rod. I look at these rods, from time to time, and they seem extremely interesting to me. I know I am becoming...

Ard,

You did it again. Another marvelous post. I read it three times and I know there are gems in here that I missed, so I need to read it a bunch more times.

I especially liked this part:...

Re: Your fishing preference

Personally, I like to go where nobody is for the most part. I know there are fish *somewhere* but it really isn't the fish I am looking for. I am looking for solitude and quietness and, well, all...
