Re: It's on.

I do intend to get a few more North Platte fish before I go. Hopefully the weather and flushes will let me get a few days out before April.

Thanks Larry

Re: It's on.

I start in Houston on the 14th April so watch out fish. I am heading your way!
I certainly won't miss the cold and snow of Wyoming after this winter.

Re: It's on.

Wel I am still in the Rockies and managed to skunk up at Grey Reef last Saturday. Been on my travels up in ND and what an icebox it was. Houston is still in my plans though.

Re: Wyoming outlawed it!

I was at Grey Reef last year and saw an angler catching regularly from the disabled pier. He was very chatty and showed me the egg method. I was surprised it was legal as it would get you a hefty...

It's on.

It is official now. I will be heading down to Houston in the next three months. It will be a wrench to leave these hard fighting BIG North Platte trout of Wyoming.
So what can I fly fish for in the...

Re: North Platte, WY Fishing Trip

No word on the move but I am still hopeful.

Skipped fishing this time off as I haven't been feeling so good lately. So 2 weeks of nightshift to get my strength back.

Re: North Platte, WY Fishing Trip

I was out 10 days ago at the Grey Reef tailwater and the wind became brutal! I got a 3lb brown that was red as a fox. I gave up when the wind chill picked up so much it was 2 casts before the tip...

Re: How do you bring home the bacon?

I tell directional drillers where to go!

These days I am tech support for all our rigs in the Rockies. Presently taht means all rigs from Crosby ND to Trinidad Co call me when they fat finger...

Re: Moving to Colorado

Wyoming is not a bad place you know. It was our first landing in the USA and Casper has been pretty good to us. Of course it didn't hurt that there is the best trout fishing in the country nearby!
I...

Re: Houston urban fishing, pic heavy

Thanks pete. If I am coming it will be to stay. It will be hard to leave those North Platte torpedoes but I said the same about the Scottish Atlantics.

Nice pics. Random question for you.I may be heading to Houston in the near future so are you using normal cold water fly lines or warm water ones?

Re: Fishing in the wind -any advice?

Use a bigger rod!

North Platte is a windy bugger of a place and I will just use my #7. It also helps to have a variety of single hand Spey casts to get the flies where you want without swinging...

Re: Two fly rig ... which goes first?

Depends....

Surface or subsurface feeders, small light nymph on point, bushy dry or semi-dry on dropper.

Seep and fast, anchor on point, lighter fly above. This had the advantage of casting...

Re: North Platte, WY Fishing Trip

I have fished throughout the past 18 months and I am not scared of a bit of cold weather. Getting the paste for the rings to stop icing is critical though.

Re: North Platte, WY Fishing Trip

Well I am off tomorrow so looking to go out in the next few of days. Just in time for some cold weather too. I had a good day 3 weeks ago with some nice fish and a lovely sunny day. That won't happen...

Re: North Platte, WY Fishing Trip

Work has been kicking my butt lately and I haven't been out much this year. Look what I am missing on my doorstep!
Fair play to you guys being out in that storm. Casper got trashed!

Re: Mother board and been years since I've had to...

For trout fishing, there is no comparison. the UK has nothing that can compare with Wyoming. Do miss the fruitless days shading non-existent salmon though.

Not really pining for anything other...

Re: North Platte in April?

The river should be ice-free in the town by then and there are plenty of big fish to be had in Casper itself although I would stay upstream of the white water zone in the park. There was much...

Re: What switch rod?

I am used to using big spey rods for atlantics back in Scotland but need something smaller for North Platte trout.
