Re: Pontoon Wheel

How about some smaller pics so we can see 'em?

Thanks,

Re: What Color Fly Rod Do You Like the Best?

I chose green, particularly darker 'forest' or 'hunter' greens (like on the Winston Boron and LT rods), but some of the reds on the newer Orvis rods are quite nice. I like a glossy finish with...

Re: How many do you take ?

I usually have 3 along, but only one with me on the water. The other two stay in the truck. When drifting I'll usually keep one or two backups in the boat.

Re: Keeping Track of Fly Lines?

It seems like most of the lines I buy (mostly Orvis) come with small ID stickers that I put on the back of the spool, otherwise I do what Frank said. I also usually add the date that I changed the...

I'll go with the Winston every time.

Excellent idea! Start with the RL Winston lineup! :icon_twis

Re: Keep or Release ??

I'll keep the ones I'm going to eat, which isn't many since my wife and daughter don't like fish. Fresh caught wild trout is definitely a hundred times better than what you could get in the store...

Re: What release tool do you use?

On the odd occasion where I don't do an LDR I use a hemostat.

Re: Tie Steam side?

Nope. Never. It might be a good thing to try, though. With all those fish gathering to laugh at me I'd probably be able to just scoop up a few with the landing net if I was quick enough...

Re: Best Overall Fly Vest

Thanks for the great review, Terry. I think that's the one I'm going to start saving my pennies for. Gotta get that new vise first, though. ;)

Re: Favorite Trout Streams

All the little mountain streams just west of here in the Big Horns. When it's time for a heavier workout I like the Yellowtail tailwater of the Bighorn River, about an hours drive away.

Re: My Friend's Secret Fishing Spot

I think that if he didn't want you to fish there then he probably shouldn't have let you in on the secret. Fish away. I think it would be bad manners to tell anyone else about it without consulting...

Re: Rotary or not?

Thanks Frank, that got it explained. That Nor vise is pretty nifty allright. Expensive, though, and I doubt if I could keep up with it. I'd most likely get myself completely tied up if I tried...

Re: Rotary or not?

Thanks for all the replies and advice, but I'm not sure I've made my question clear. I'm curious as to what the rotary feature actually does for you, other than being able to look at the fly from...

Rotary or not?

OK, I've decided to tie more of my own. Consequently the POS $15 vise I've used for years ain't gonna cut it anymore. I want to get a good one so I only have to buy it once and it'll last me pretty...

Re: Do you need an expensive reel ?

My immediate thought was to say "Yes, expensive reels have a lot to offer." Then I realized that my idea of 'expensive' is very different from that of many here. I thought my Battenkill MA's were...

Re: Winter fly fishing anyone?

All right, all right! Ya don't have to beat me up. I'll put down my pipe and drink, set my book aside, let the fire go out, crawl out of my comfy chair and go find my rod and waders. It's supposed...

Re: 20 Ways to Know You’ve Booked a Bad Fly Fishing Guide

23. Guide gets all excited when I tell him I want to take a break to smoke my pipe, then looks crestfallen and slumps away when he sees me loading up my old Peterson with Captain Black.

Re: What's on your lanyard?

I gotta stick with the traditional vest, I have way too many essentials to be able to work with just a lanyard. You know - pipe, tobacco pouch, lighter, tamper, hip flask, bottle opener - all the...

Re: Looking for new 5wt

I don't know about Echo, but I'd say I enjoy my Hill Country 3 wt. every bit as much as my RL Winston rods. That's saying a lot, too, because I'm a pretty dedicated Winston man. ;) The prices Josh...
