Your 3 weight might not have a stiff enough tip section to turn over a nymph/indi rig. Maybe try it without the indi to see if you can get a better roll cast. Your line might be to light when fishing...

Sage One is a very expensive rod for anyone, you can spend half that and get all the rod you need. If you have to have the "One" I'd buy a used one and save a bunch of $. Your reel choice doesn't...

How far do you expect people to travel with most of the U.S. being above grade temps? My friends just came back from Montana and it's too hot to fish there. 16 hrs was a long drive....

Hat Creek isn't so wide in the upper part but the fly only water has a hydroelectric powerhouse that brings in a lot of water making it more of a river then creek.

You see them belly up at the bottom of the river look for their white belly in deeper holes. I'm not a scientist but have seen it many times over many seasons.
