Re: Crayfish patterns for trout?

For some waters I use crayfish as lead fly almost every time. The clouser crayfish is a good pattern with good color and silhouette properties. I saw the pic of the wooly bugger, which is good...

Re: How do you fish a wolly booger?

You've got it! I usually do well with the basic top ten flies plus a few of my own. I do get flustered sometimes when I don't have the right stuff but the bugger is one I'll try last.

Re: Yellowstone Experience - Crowds an Anomaly for 2015?

Yes, this year, I believe, the park saw record numbers. The weather this year was particularly mild and dry. Hoot-owl restrictions are in place, first time since I have moved here four years ago. I'm...

Re: Rewind to the stone age, before fly fishing

If my eyes aren't deceiving me, it looks it says the officers give the indian some expert advice. Lol I bet the indian can cook that thing in more ways than all the officers combined. I used to get...

Re: Think trout

I used to live in Des Moines but have never fished the place youre talking about. There are also some pits down on the way to knoxville that have stocked trout, not sure if youre aware. Anywho, if it...

Nice job on your first trout. It sounds like a good day! Do you live around them or did you take a vacation to go fishing?

Re: How do you fish a wolly booger?

I like this thread. Lots of good information! I find that I go through a series of retrieve styles until I get a hit. Sometimes they want long slow strips, other times they want a fast escape strip,...

Re: PSA: Yellowstone Park is not a petting zoo!!!

I just saw the fifth person this year was gored by a buff. She was taking a selfie and it threw her into the air!

Great report and pics! Your trip sounds just as I remember when I fished it two years ago. Lots of little guys but still a great time, thanks for sharing.

Re: What did you learn today?

One of the great things about fly fishing is the amount of stuff there is to learn. I recently figured out the streamer "swing". I was fishing the Upper Madison with a friend who knew this section...

Re: some advise and ideas

Hang in there bud! It only gets better. I too have had some trouble with a marriage once, it's no fun at all. I can't really give any advice because, well, women are confusing as hell....just gotta...

Re: Ideas on wet-wading shoes?

I usually wear an older pair of wading boots. If I'm fishing rivers with flat rocks for easier wading/crossing I will wear Teva sandals. A pair of neoprene booties and wade boots is pry the best...

I've lived in Boze for three years and have fished it hard ever since. Check out the blog in my signature. There are several pages about fishing the surrounding area.

Re: going to be a cold one this weekend here

Its been single digits and well below freezing since the cold snap hit. I started working with streamers up until the last nice day. I tied some new patterns along with some articulated streamers and...

Re: Sometimes, we just eat

When I lived in Iowa we kept walleye and crappie for family fish frys. We'd throw in some pheasants and morel mushrooms. I was taught to respect the largemouth we sought after and let them go. I've...

Re: Streamer patterns for fall?

I failed to add my recommendations of flies! I drove by there on Monday and the water was muddier than I've seen in a long time. The levels were good though. It is a good idea to check the USGS...

Re: How far will a trout travel to catch lunch?

When I first read your title I began thinking that I have to believe most of the time they do not move very far at all. Imagine the three or four trout that are holding in fast water moving only a...
