Re: Rods Breaking?

Every rod I've broken has been my fault.

1. Fly stuck in grass behind me on back cast. Rip rip rip tug - snap. Dumb - go get the fly dummy.
2. Fly in eye of rod instead of hook keeper. ...

Re: Colorado Winter Fishing

I did ok for about 5 hours on Monday down river from Deckers about 5 miles. A lot of people out (counted 35 cars today) so I spent the majority of time working about a 35 yard stretch on river with...

I have a Sage ONE 990 that I'd like to trade for a Sage ONE 790. I bought it to fish Kings then I bought a Loomis 10' 9 weight NRX. Since moving to CO I have no need for two 9 weights. It's only...

Re: Have you taken a swim for a fish?

I chased a big King way down the river on the Pere Marquette in MI. I climbed out of the drift boat and hauled a$$ downriver. I didn't swim because I got lucky and I'm amazingly skilled when under...

Re: The "Experts" chime in on old vs.new !

That was a fun read. I agree with everyone on the clothing. I've found differences in my rods over the years but could certainly fish with the first model fly rods I bought 15 years ago by simply...

Re: What is your choice drink for fly fishing?

In my pack I have a thermos of fresh ground fresh brewed coffee. I pack my coffee pot on any trip over 1 day. A pain, but I insist on good coffee when sitting on the stream bank. I also have a...

Re: Abel fly rods

I looked into them not too long ago as I found a few used ones. From what I remember about the research I did at the time was they were heavy, prone to breakage, and could not be replaced if they...

Counting the days... First weekend in March and I'll be fishing the PM for some Steel.

You've gotten great advice here. Stones, Hex, Pheasant Tails, Caddis, Glo Bugs, Nuke Eggs. If you're...

Re: Abercrombie & Fitch reel - Uniqua?

I'm not discounting the team of flyfishers we have here at NAFF - so don't jump on me! But the guys over at the Classic Fly Rod Forum are well tuned with these old reels too and might be worth a...

Re: Muir Woods coho salmon vanish

I've stood on the bridge in the article and watched small salmon (2 inch fish) feed in the past. Sad.

Re: Wading jackets

Generally, when I fish I fish all day - not just a few hours. I also do not let rain deter me from fishing, especially if I'm on a week long vacation or traveled to fish steelhead. For me, I need a...

Re: Poudre

Leaving the lower canyon today I found not one but two fly rods in the middle of the road. I stopped to pick them up but they both were damaged pretty good. One was a TFO with a black Bauer reel. The...

Re: Greeley Colorado area

I fished the Big T two weekends ago. I did fine and saw plenty of fish. I thought long and hard about the St. Vrain. That is one nice looking piece of water. The numbers are the numbers but I did...

Dude - I swear I saw your truck parked on Thompson Canyon road on Sunday when I was changing to leave after fishing. I was admiring the wheels. Awesome truck. Great blog/pix too.

Re: Presenting a Dry Fly to Rising Trout

It's posts like this that make me realize that I know very little about flyfishing even after almost 15 years. And after all that time, if I don't know it, will I ever? Yes, flyfishing is a journey...

Re: Not a good read.

I've seen some of this fungus on the South Platte. I'm not sure if it's related or not but it does kill the fish and I thought the same thing about it looking like Salmon towards the end of their...

Re: Lamson Speedster for life?

Depends on what feels right to you in terms of weight and balance. I use an Abel Super 6N on my Sage ONE 690-4 and it's perfect for me. Ideal, actually.

Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

I can't count how many steelhead and salmon I've landed on Great Lake tribs fishing with Abel Reels. Too many to count. I've never. Ever. Had an issue with the cork drag not doing its job. Rain....

Re: Reel for G Loomis NRX 9' 9wt

I have a Hatch 7+ mid arbor on my NRX 9 weight. Awesome set up. I use the reel for an 8 weight switch too and with a switch Spey 8/9 line there is still plenty of room on it for me.

Re: Icey Mud flow..

Wow, that's too bad. I'm assuming the picture in the post is the stream and the video is what has happened to it. I can't imagine such a thing but the video sure is graphic.
