Re: Robbie

Very nice fly :)

What did you like about the Japanese floss that separates it from the rayon (I only have rayon)?

What is the wing made out of?

Re: Parson's #1

Eunan - Very Nice indeed. The SBS really showed some of the nuances for getting the body formed correctly. Thanks, Lee

Re: Parson's #1

Eunan,

Thanks for the critique.

You're correct about the strung hackle. I'll give the rooster capes a try. Is there anything I should look for since I'll have to order sight unseen?

What...

Parson's #1

I'm just starting out with full wing Salmon Flies, FINALLY! First I'd like to thank Eunan for sending me his old hooks. Second I'd like to thank Pocono for the SBS:...

Re: winter flies and soft hackles

I use a thread body of olive or brown and then a dubbing ball of SLV Prisim dubbing in a brown or olive. I use Hungarian Partridge feathers that are closer to white in color for my soft hackle. The...

Re: Going downstream or upstream

The reason to fish downstream on nymphs/wets is to keep the line as taut as possible and to take advantage of the swing at the end of the drift. Casting upstream leaves a lot of slack in the line...

Re: Any Black Friday Rod Sales????

Gosh I hope not. I know I'm ONLY paying $31 for the new rod, but it seems like shrink wrap will not be as sturdy as thread.

Re: Any Black Friday Rod Sales????

I agree with everything you say except how the guides are attached. Mine are certainly attached with thread and look ok. Granted your not going to get titanium guides or high grade cork, but I've had...

Re: Any Black Friday Rod Sales????

My go to rod is a Three-Forks 7'6" 3wt. For the price you can't beat it. I just ordered a spare 8'6" 5wt for my son if he wants to join me.

Re: Question: dry flies, wet flies, nymphs or streamers

Our TU chapter is part of Project Healing Waters. We go with Wooly Buggers (i.e streamers) and Nymphs for the disabled vets. I think you have to worry less about drag which is easier with those...

FS: LLBean Streamlight 9' 5wt, 4 Piece

SOLD - Thanks Tyler :)

Selling my LLBean Streamlight 9' 5wt, 4 Piece. I got this about a year ago, but I didn't use it very much. Spent most of my time using my 3wt rod. As all LL Bean rods do,...

Re: What is a 2 and 3 wt rod used for

I use a 7'6" 3wt on my local streams for trout when I want to throw dries or small (under size 10) wets/nymphs. Most of the trout are under 18 inches. I felt that a 5wt was too much rod and took some...

Re: Short 5wt Rod Length Suggestions/Thoughts?

I appreciate all the suggestions and comments. I guess a 7ft is not to short for a 5wt. Now it's just down to rod. I was looking at the 5 listed. I'm not sure about the Far & Fine. I know they were...

Re: Short 5wt Rod Length Suggestions/Thoughts?

Let me ask this another way. Is a 7ft too short for a 5wt?

Are any of the rods "better" than the others?

Short 5wt Rod Length Suggestions/Thoughts?

I'm looking to get a "true" 5wt short rod. 2 years ago I built what was advertised as a 5wt, but it is much closer to a 4 :( so I'm not happy with it. I'm looking at the following 5wt rods:

Grey's...

Build or Buy???

If you've seen my recent posts I was looking for advice on whether to go 10ft or switch. Well I decided to go switch, with the plan on building a TFO Deer Creek 5wt. I figure my budget without...
