George Daniel's book is a great resource. Keep it simple and try one thing at a time. Start with a basic tight line nymphing and indicator nymphing. then move on to more complex areas.

Hockey tapes are great but I would caution you against using them on spey rods. They may leave a lot of sticky residue on the rod joints. And these sticky residue catches a lot of dirt over time....

toss out all the spey casts, at least the set up part. let the water load your rod and either toss your presentation upstream or do a open loop roll cast.
