Re: Spey Fly Line Head Lengths Defined

To me this is of very limited use. Firstly it can only be taken seriously for 15ft rods or above - but in fairness this was probably agreed when they were the 'norm'.

Things have changed -...

Arrow Spey Fly Line Head Lengths Defined

I just thought this table might be useful. This is simply a table of Spey head lengths in relation to rod lengths. This is my interpretation and of course the divisions are arbitrary. But hey - I...

Re: A terrible practice day

Wow - this is surely way too short! A head 3.5-3.75 x rod length is the size I recommend. This is true spey casting. Longer lines give you more time - you can develop a lovely tempo - you can relax!...

Re: Long & Mid Belly Lines, Am I Alone Here?

Hi Baseman1

36ft is too short for true spey casting with a 13ft rod. Go for a head between 3.5 and 4 x the length of rod. i.e. 45ft-50ft. If you are a relative beginner then 3.5 is perfect.

Re: Specialist Spey Lines for Modern Spey Casting

It's on its way soon - honestly - they have arrived at last. And it would seem that this is the weight that is popular over in the USA.

Many thanks for the feedback Ard. Delighted you liked them....

Re: Megan Boyd movie on Netflix Instant

It was bitter sweet for me. I really disliked the animations with a fly in the girl's mouth. Very poor taste. Though some bits were good , I would not watch it again.

Re: Long & Mid Belly Lines, Am I Alone Here?

Sure - if I can match your rod (we dont have full range yet). The full Spey lines are #9/10 and #10/11 but we do have a specially coated switch line #7/8. This would suit a Switch rod 10ft 6in -12ft...

Re: Long & Mid Belly Lines, Am I Alone Here?

Fred, John - I've been involved in the production of a new Spey line made in the UK. These are mid belly for 'real' spey casting! The prototypes have arrived - and I need testers :) I'd like to send...

Re: "Fast action" vs "Stiff"

In practical terms rods of equal length can be assessed/compared in three ways:

Power (what weight it takes to bend a rod certain amount)

Flex: (where it starts to bend when you bend to the...

Re: Common Cents Rod Rating Method...interesting results

I'm very interested to hear your results. When I did a few tests I found that bending a third of the rod was too much for stiff – tippy rods (many modern types!). It seemed to me that I had to add...

Re: Taping my joints

I've Spey cast for 30 years and never now tape (or wax). Check your rod connections and your fly regularly. The only time I broke a rod was at a taped section that had worked slack. Just my way...

Re: WOOO...Tax time...considering new spey rod

This sounds like you are letting too much fly line be in contact with the water before you begin your forward cast. It should just be the last foot or so. If it is an airborne Spey cast (like Single...

Hi All

Everything is as it should be as far as I can see. I tested as normal member and worked fine. What browser are you using ? and any special ad blocker or anything?
