Re: Question on St Croix Imperial old or new version

I don't think the Imperials ever actually moved to Mexico. I bought one a couple years ago, and when it arrived it didn't have a "made is USA" label on it, despite the catalog I bought it from...

Re: Sulfide Mining

NE Minnesota has a huge history with mining (iron ore / taconite) so there is a significant population here that is pushing for this expansion of mining in the state and value the relatively short...

Re: Superbowl 50 Pick and Tell Thread;

Same theme as many of the previous posts - would love to see Denver win and Manning get another title in what should be his last game. Unfortunately, Carolina looks darn good and will most likely...

Re: Guided Fly Fishing via Bicycle

There are a few nice paved trails along trout streams in SE Minnnesota that open up some nice stretches that would otherwise be tied up in blocks of private land. I agree the other poster's...

Re: Taught or self taught?

99% self-taught, the 1% was out in front of the fly shop after rigging up my switch rod... Spey casting turned out to be easier on grass than water!
I would be willing to pay for some good time on...

Re: A place you plan to visit?

Nipegon or Albany River in NW Ontario for big brook trout - with the favorable exchange rate this would seem to be a good year to go... plus living within a mile of the border means I really should...

Re: Where to go in 2016

+1 for the Wind River Mountains, specifically the Indian Reservation portion. You should have no trouble finding solitude and big fish... Unless all these recommendations flood the area with people...

Re: The 2015 What Was Your Best Experience Of The Season Thread;

Like many others, I have a hard time picking just one, so here are 3 bests for 2015:

March - fishing the Grand Ronde in SE WA and hooking into 3 steelhead. I didn't manage to land any of them,...

Re: No 2016 Great Waters Fly Fishing Expo

This is too bad, the Great Waters Expo was a lot of fun and a chance to see a lot of different speakers and vendors - a nice kickoff to the flyfishing season for those of us north enough that the...

Re: Fall trip

I really liked the Wallowa and Grand Ronde in NE Oregon and SE Washington. As someone from the Upper Midwest, the rivers were manageable size and wadable, yet there were opportunities for big...

Re: Wind River Canyon Help

I just fished the canyon this past week. The river is very wadable at current flows, but as others have said there is also some very deep water so be careful. We found plenty of places that were...

Re: Central Sands?

I fished some of these Central Sands streams early in my fly fishing life when I still lived in Central Wisconsin. I can't say that I ever had much success, but that was probably more related to my...

+1 for bringing bug spray... A trip to the Winds a few years ago in early August (late spring) was probably the worst mosquitos I've ever run into... And I'm from MN where mosquitos are the state...

Re: Article on Minnesota's Driftless Region

That's a nice article. The fishing easements and habitat improvement are such a great use of the funding, instead of just pumping in more hatchery fish into a few public areas. I love it there,...

Unfortunately, I can't help too much with the line question - I've always just muddled along with a regular WF floating line for bass or pike. Where are you going to be located in MN? I spent most...

Re: 19 Days Until Wisconsin Opener

The regulation maps that Wisconsin publishes (or at least did publish up until a few years ago) generally made the regs pretty easy to figure out, even back when only some streams were open for the...
