FS: Orvis Battenkill Pro Guide Vest (Mesh), size XXL

I bought this very, very nice vest, Orvis' top of the line, but because I was only a stillwater fisherman, I never actually used it. It's new. It's a super comfortable and very cool vest with tons of...

Re: Do you buy or tie?

My problem is cost of materials. I want a particular fly, say in three sizes. It might cost me $30-50 in materials if I don't have any of them. Sure, I can tie maybe 60-75 flies from those...

Re: Nets: Is there a "best style" ? Like asking for an average size bolt.

Having owned and sold a Brodin Ghost, I sure don't.

Re: Alkaline Lakes and Cracked Skin

Thanks Ard

One person suggested that I do what he does, and that is coat the areas that tend to crack with superglue. That seals the area and stops the cracking.

I'd love to hear more...

Alkaline Lakes and Cracked Skin

I can't be the only one this happens to. When I spend the day fishing on an alkaline lake (which most of my favorite trout lakes are, shallow and weedy with lots of fish food), the skin on my hands...

Re: Nets: Is there a "best style" ? Like asking for an average size bolt.

I owned a Brodin Ghost Frying Pan Float Tube net and agree with you. Way expensive (enough that you worry about banging it around and damaging the finish), heavy, slippery handle, and I don't buy...

Re: Nets: Is there a "best style" ? Like asking for an average size bolt.

I use the collapsible long handle Measure Net. It's light, it floats, the foam grip is secure in my hand even when wet or slimy. It measures the fish automatically. I have the optional...

Re: Would You Have Released This Trout?

Personally, I don't eat trout so I would have released the fish even knowing it would die. The fish would not go to waste in the water, at the very least it would add to the nutrients and other...

Re: outcast fishcat and fatcat, big differences between them?

The fatcat is quite a bit bigger. That gives it more flotation and you ride a little higher out of the water. It also has a urethane bladder, but it only has one inflation valve. It's a nicer...

Re: Fish pictures: How to help minimize stress on the fish

I don't particularly like to eat trout, and I don't like harming any animal. I also fish exclusively in stillwater.

When I catch a fish I get them in as quickly as I can, and if it's a smaller...

Re: flourocarbon

I like fluorocarbon for tippets when I am fishing subsurface, but I prefer mono for the butt section. Fluoro in larger diameters (like the butt section of a tapered leader) feels too stiff and wirey...

Re: Masking Human Scent?

No, although he does specialize in stillwater, he seldom fishes that way. He uses a variety of sinking lines and strips/retrieves the fly.

As would I. But I also don't think the scent issue...

Masking Human Scent?

I was watching a Youtube video of Andy Burk on tying a Pyramid Lake Wooly Bugger, and he mentioned it is a good idea to grab some bottom mud and rub your flies with it to mask non-natural scents.

Apology accepted. I think Sasha's C&R thread is one everyone should read and can learn from.

Re: Small Water, Gotta Love It

I really wish that when fishing in C&R waters people wouldn't mistreat the fish just to take a photo. Letting them flop around on the ground like that likely means those fish are all dead now.
