Re: Lake's goldfish infestation comes to unexpected end

Just to be a downer,

Let's not celebrate too soon. I doubt the pelicans got all the goldfish, they never do. Those pelicans were on their way somewhere to munch the fish there. What happens there...

Re: Dead Flies Don't Swim

I'm with Stenacron, fishing a trico spinnerfall here in Co can be the most maddening experience of your life. There is such a thing as too many bugs. :batty:

My version: Dead Bugs Don't Wear...

Re: Tell us about your fishing partners.

There are many places that I could fish, but the 'lil dawg is not allowed.

Those places are untouched, and so they shall remain.

Re: Casting a Skagit head ?

Long casts with limited (or no) backcast space is what attracts me to Spey fishing. Scagit seems easier for me to learn, as well.

Airborne anchor!? You're waaaaayy out of my league, here!

Re: Fly tying saves money?

I've stopped tying my own, mostly because of time. I haven't invested the time to get good, or fast; too many other interests. Besides, I'm quite the klutz.

I don't go through near as many flies...

Re: Cigars and Fly Fishing

I say: You're a fly shop, stick to what you know- flies. Cigar smokers (I am one, occasionally) are a somewhat picky bunch. I doubt you'll be able to throw some stogies in a case and make money.

Re: Nestor's Pheasant Tail

Been tying and using a fly just like this for years. I use them in small sizes, # 18-22. Deadly on small creeks with light pressure.............

My version is simpler. I tie on the bead and...

Re: New rods better than old rods???

Technically speaking, yes.

I have a 12 year old top-of-the line rod, cost back then: $550. A friend has a mid-level rod that cost $250 2 years ago. I can't tell a difference functionally between...

Re: Utah/Wyoming Trip Report - Green and Weber Rivers

Lousy weather, sore ribs, and you're still smiling! Sometimes you gotta suffer a bit to appreciate the good stuff, eh?

Nice report, TY.

Re: How To: Drift an Indicator Nymph Rig

Good tips so far, I'll add to your tech knowledge: As the indy drifts towards you, lift the tip of your rod and therefore the flyline off the water. This is called "high sticking" in my parlance. The...

Re: How can you tell that your nymphs are reaching bottom

What SilverCreek called Walleye floats, I call cork-n-stick indy's, and they work very well. The stick will act as a pointer, showing you a LOT.

Re: How to use a steel

I can put an edge on a knife, but for a real edge, Grandma would make that knife flash like a sparkler. I never caught on, unfortunately.....

Re: Casting a Skagit head ?

All I've done with my switch rod is weighted flies and/or sink tips. This guy spelled it out well for me.

I'm no pro, but I can get it out there OK....

Re: Should I bother fishing when water is high and brown?

Look up the term "strike indicators". Also check out "indy nymphing" or "indicator nymphing". It's basically the same thing you're doing now, but one can go a lot deeper. :D

Re: Scott Radian versus Sage ONE...

I didn't get a killah close- out price for my Hardy, but got a good deal from another forum member. Broke my own rule, didn't fish it, didn't even cast it. Bought strictly on rep. While I don't...

Re: Should I bother fishing when water is high and brown?

I've met some who claim that this is the best time to fish, for the reasons Smilingduck mentioned. I can't claim I've done that great.

Think big and ugly, I'm told. Work is nutz for a while...

Re: New to Fly Fishing; What Would You Do If You Had A Do Over?

The worst thing I did was hire on a local guide for a day, and told him: I don't care about catching fish, teach me to fish. The son of a biscuit did just that.

Jeff Douglas, I hate you to...

Re: CorQ's...another indicator...

It's still a round, smooth shape, so it won't show enough info, IMO.

A good strike indicator is more than just a bobber!

Re: How Many Different Ways Can You Sling a Fly?

You left out the "adjust a bubble on a spin cast rod" cast. Yup, BTDT.

I guess I just don't like counting things.

Re: How can you tell that your nymphs are reaching bottom

How can I see what my nymphs are doing? Simple! Watch my indicator!

Simple, yes, easy? Takes a while to learn. I don't like Thingamabobbers, the round, smooth shape doesn't show enough info, IMO....

Re: Stream Footwear
