Re: Scott s4s7or 8 wt for general bonefishing in the Bahamas

Interested in hearing the comparison as well. I have a S4 5wt I really like but I haven't tried one in a heavier line weight. I still use my S3s 9wt for S. Andros as it seems the wind always is...

Re: Scott STS 907-2 rod

I have never owned the 907 but the STS series had a great reputation as saltwater rods.

Re: what do think about bauer reelsiu

I personally think Bauer is the most underrated fly reel company out there. I don't understand why they get so little respect in the secondary market. There are many times absolute steals are...

Re: Reel for Hardy 5wt Deluxe Bamboo Rod?

You might try an Orvis Battenkill 5/6 English made click and pawl. They regularly sell on Ebay used for $100 or less. Another good choice for a more moderate priced reel that looks good on cane...

Re: Reel for my new Sage One 4 wt

JMO but I would check out a Galvan Torque. I have 3 and couldn't be happier with them. I would also look at the Bauer and Abel reels. All three are made in the US if that makes any difference to...

Re: What's the worst fly rod you've ever had?

I apologize if my comments on the Biix came across as critical of your post as they certainly weren't meant to be. I was just using it to illustrate my point that " one man's dog is another man's...

Re: What's the worst fly rod you've ever had?

Dan, I agree. An earlier post mentioned a "worst" rod that is one of my favorites. A Winston Biix 8'6" 4wt. I love the soft tip many hate on the rod. It certainly isn't fast as was marketed by...

Re: Backup Rods

When I'm fishing on a day trip close to home I rarely take a back up rod. The most I'll be is 1 hr or less from my house so it wouldn't be a big deal if something happened to the rod I've taken. I...

Re: What's the worst fly rod you've ever had?

Mine was the first bamboo rod I bought. An Orvis Midge/Nymph. It had two tips; one to make a 7'6" Midge and another to make a 7'9" Nymph rod. It was a beautiful rod but was unbelievably S L O W. ...

Re: I went trout fishing ( LOTS of pictures!! )

Beautiful and very nice pics! That little shiner looks a lot like what we call warpaint shiners locally. They thrive in the trout streams and generally like the same feeding lanes as the trout. ...

Re: Thoughts on fishing with Bamboo rods

Agree. I read posters all the time on the Classic Rod Forum post to the effect " I haven't fished a plastic rod in years" or words to that effect. No big deal to me but I've always thought it was...

Re: Wading boots Sizing question

I currently have wading boots from Simms, Patagonia, Orvis and Chota. I wear a size 12D street shoe and have found size 13s fit me best for use with waders. Suze 12 fit me best for wet wading. I...

Re: Can rods breakdown?

I have a good friend that played on the PGA tour and then Champions tour for years. He told me that the graphite shafts soften over use and are changed out by some players on a somewhat regular...

Re: Thoughts on fishing with Bamboo rods

Hi,

I fish bamboo rods maybe 40% of the time I trout fish. I have rods from 7' to 8'3" in 3, 4 and 5wts. I find there is far more difference in a bamboo rod even of the same taper and from the...

Re: Why are reels so expensive and are they worth it?

I agree that the Bauer reels are great. Frankly, I can't understand why used ones in mint or excellent condition sell for such large discounts in the various forum classifieds and Ebay. I own...

Re: George Anderson's "4-Weight Shootout"

Personally, I put little to no stock in these shootouts. "Best" is extremely subjective when for the most part the average fly fisherman has as much in common with the testers as a red wiggler has...

Re: bluegill culling on trout streams opinion

I agree with Rip Tide. I think its almost impossible to overfish a bluegill population. Culling the gills caught will probably do nothing but improve the size and health of the remaining...

Re: Ultralight Fly Rodders out there?

I love ultralight fly fishing, both for trout and panfish. I have a Sage SPL 8' 0wt, Scott G 8'8" 2wt and 3 3wts. I really like the Scott G for size 18 and smaller dries and soft hackles. Very...

Re: Reel Love, the fly reel Picture Thread;

Thanks sweetandsalt. I didn't know about using the length of the latch lever as a possible means of dating the spool. Its quite possible the spool is not the one that originally came with the reel....

Re: Reel Love, the fly reel Picture Thread;

My vintage CFO III I found on Ebay. All indications are that it was built in the first or second year of CFO production. It has no "registered mark" after either Orvis or CFO. It also was built...

Re: Best 5 or 6 wt freshwater reel under $300.00

For me its a Galvan Torque 5. Not sure about the retail price now but I see them regularly for sale mint or lightly used on Ebay for less than $300. I have 2 plus an extra spool as I use them on...

I drink the extra strength ones regularly in the morning. I don't get a buzz or feel jittery. I've been a slow starter in the morning for as long as I can remember. These get me alert and going...

Re: Able Creek 1 vs Trout 2

I use a TR-1 some on my shorter 4 weight cane rods. Plenty of capacity for backing and it balances the rods well. I think the TR and CR series reels are about the best light line click and pawl...
