Re: Reel for Sage 7wt (without totally breaking the bank)

I have the Nautilus FWX 7/8 for my 7wt XVP which is really a nice kit but in my view the Galvan T series is equal. Have the T5 on a 6wt Sage flight.

Picking between the 2 is like the veritable...

Re: Entry level salt water

Said I wasn't going to discuss brands but the TFO Pro II is a darn hard rod to beat at the price point for salt. They have the best customer service in the business.

You break it, he/she/it...

Re: Short rods for big flies?

All the short "Bass" rods (included the beloved Sage) felt like spinning rods with guides to me. They were hard to throw far, I me like 50'. Their control felt no better than a good 9'0". Tube...

Re: Entry level salt water

Look before you know it this will spin into a "mine's better" and "if you only spend $..... more" string.

First save money on the reel. There are plenty in the $100+/- that have adequate drags....

Re: Sage Flight opinions

Myself, wife and sons have several Flights & FLi's. They are superbe rods and at $250ish new in my mind "best in price range".

We've caught most southern freshwater species along with lots of...

Re: St Croix's standing in the fly fishing scheme of things

I have the 6wt 9'-0" 4pc Imperial that I really like for bream (bluegill to Yankees) and Texas Hill country rivers and streams.

I got this sight uncasted on classified at a great price as there...

Re: Is there that big of a difference? Old vs. New

Hey, doesn't the Sage guy look like a singer from Dire Straits?

Honestly I'm as hooked on the new stuff as the next, reel addict. However I could easily live with a Fenwick glass & Pflueger...

Re: Is there that big of a difference? Old vs. New

Whats the old line by Dire Straits; "We go to sell these refrigerators, got to move these color tv's". The rod makers have to have "new and improved" to tweak the fickle markets interest. Who would...

Bayou Bonefish!

After a bit of a drought (not weather but fish caught) landed the grass carp (aka "bayou bonefish") the other Sunday morning. These guys put up a good fight and fuss. Can't over emphasize how spooky...

Re: BVK vs. VXP vs. Response vs. Imperial

All good rods. I have or had all in wts near or at the 8wt.

I had BVK in 7 & 8 but sold both on this site. Just didn't get along with their action. Now have the Sage Flight 8wt which as understand...

Re: 9', #5 Rods - master of nothing....

These strings tend to try to come up with the "one size fits all". This is also a "trout" out west or east discussion.

Us bare footed southern boys are left out of the discussion. No love here...

Re: Does made in USA matter?

I have a large array of mid range $$ rods being a father of 2 sons who fly fish and husband to a fly fishing wife.

In addition have a smaller set for me that are in the $300-800 range.

So...

Re: New back-up 6WT Opinion

We have several TFO Pro Series in 6-8wt. I have no input on the Cabelas LSi.

The Pro II and Pro Series IMHO are a best buy at the price point. They have a good medium fast action that is forgiving...

Another high "Kudos" to Fishwest

Typing here after a bit of lawn casting with my new 7wt Sage VXP (which I love and have plans for on redfish Sat morn) that I got through a combination of cash and Fishwest's "Upgrade Program.

Re: G.Loomis - A New Industry Standard?

I'm a professional Sales Manager for a company that sells into several markets:

Most of the people who make the "buy" decision on orders that probably...

Re: Evolution Drag

If you have a reel that is used often and after 11 years it finally needs a bit of service then IMHO that's a good reel.

My son's & I fish the Texas coast for reds. specks, and flounder. Corrosion...

Sage VXP vs Flight/Response

I'm lusting for a nice 7wt for Gulf Coast wade fishing and tube floating for bass. Been using a TFO Pro II & Mangrove, good rods but I want lighter and bit faster. In addition I think I'm going to...

yes I have cast the 8wt rod and it is a fast rod (not as fast at Method or One) but for the life of me I cannot feel or see a performance difference of it and my 8wt Flight (now called Response).

Re: Clarifying the new G. Loomis Warranty

In my view that's as "muddy" as they have always been.

Just bought a Sage One 8wt - 9', didn't even pick up the G.Loomis even though they have rave performance reviews.

I've dealt with Sage...

Re: Loomis.....losing fans and market share?

I tend to judge a company by any all products I've used of theirs.

I came into a very nice bonus in the 90's and bought 2 Loomis casting rods. The shop guys talked 'em up and off I went. For the...

Re: Sage repair/warranty

Recently (2 months ago) returned a 8wt Flight to them as one of the joints had some light cracks caused by casting with the section loose; ie my fault. Included a note stating I felt it was my fault....

Re: FINALLY my FIRST carp

Nice "grassie" as my sons call them. Were also in Houston chasing these phantoms.

Honestly we stalk them like we're hunting deer as they are so spooky and flighty. Hooked probably 12-15 and...

Re: WTB 8 wt

Your $350 limits your choices, meaning most/all of the Sage line is out of reach unless you go used or sale.

Fishing Tackle Unlimited had the Flight series on sale at their I45 outlet for $249....
