Re: Somerset Show 2014: Rods

I have the Radian 9' 6wt. It's hands down the best 6wt I have owned. It is on par with the Radian 5wt. It just has more power and excels at throwing bigger stuff. If you like the Radian 5wt, expect...

Re: buying a 6 wt

If you are thinking about the One. Think even harder about the Scott Radian. It's one of the nicest 6 weights I've ever fished. For western trout, I would skip the fighting butt.

Re: Ideal length for a 3wt?

I settled on the Scott G2 8'-8" 3wt. It just felt the best out of the various lengths offered in the G2. It's a very versatile and fun rod to fish. I have it paired up with an Abel Creek 1 large...

Re: 9'/#5 Burkheimer, Method, Radian, Solar

I think Gold is now more like 1/2 size. I'm not sure but the marketing material has me staying away from Rio lines to avoid further confusion.

Last Fall, I complained directly to Rio about the...

Re: 9'/#5 Burkheimer, Method, Radian, Solar

Not any longer. It changed in 2013 to full size heavier. Here is the Rio description from their website:

The RIO Grand is a full line size heavier than the industry standard, and features more...

Re: Abel Super 5N or 4N?

I have found the following set ups work best for my preferences

Scott Radian 9'-0 5wt matched with a Abel Super 5N, LA, ported frame balances absolutely perfectly. This opinion is based on the...

Re: Fast 4wts

Look for a good deal on a Scott S4 8'-6/ 4 wt. There are a few brand new ones still lingering around and they can be had for under $500

Re: Somerset Show 2014: Rods

As for balance:

On my Radian 9'-0 5wt, I have found the Abel Super 5N to be the preferred balance. I have a 4N as well and it could work but felt too light.

I found the 4N to be the perfect...

Re: Fly Line for Scott Radian w/ Abel

For me, SA GPX is the best line for the Radian. Rio Gold just didn't cut it for me inside of 20 feet. Not enough there to load the rod. Rio Perception in my opinion is snake oil and performs below...

Re: Reel and line suggestion for Scott G 3 wt

Sure thing. This is what I use on my G2 8'-8" 3wt and couldn't be happier. I've tried a double taper line and while it works OK, I prefer the WF3F SA Mastery Trout the best for this rod. Your G...

Re: Pairing for Scott Radian 5wt

I'll try to get some comments up in the other thread about the Radian.

Regarding my reel suggestions, the Abel models I noted as well as the Hatch really balance the rods perfectly.

Re: Pairing for Scott Radian 5wt

As for others rods to compare, in the last few years I have owned and fished these fast action rods. Winston B3X, Sage One and Scott S4. In my opinion it fishes closest to the B3X in terms of feel...

Re: Pairing for Scott Radian 5wt

Neither. I spent my hard earned dollars on 3 new Radians. Without an intensive review, the limited material that is our there is pretty accurate about the Radian. I think the 5 and 6 weights are...

Re: Pairing for Scott Radian 5wt

On my new Radians, I have found the following rod/ reel combos to be a perfect match in terms of balance and feel when fishing.

Radian 9'-0/ 4 line - Abel 4N (Large Arbor)
Radian 9'-0/ 5 line -...

Re: Line for Scott Radian

I have tried several lines for the 3 Radians I have and have found SA GPX the best. I tried Rio Gold and felt it just didn't load well unless at least 30 feet of line was out. Rio Perception was a...

Re: New Rio Fly Line: Perception

I inquired to Rio about the weight and they claim that Perception is a half size heavy. Similar to the old Grand. I am still scratching my head over bumping Grand up a full line weight and still...

Not sure if anyone noticed, but the new version of Rio Grand is now a full line weight heavier in size. I am really scratching my head why they went from the 1/2 size heavy to a full size. In my...

Re: Patagonia Rock Grip Wading Boot-Aluminum Bar

This confirms my suspicions that the boots were great for drift boats and were also on the heavy side. Thanks for all the information.

Re: Scott Radian
