Re: Western guys, I need some quick Brookie rod advice.

I'd suggest the 5wt 8'6". I'm starting to pull away from the thinking that a 9' is the best length for an all-around rod unless I'm in a pontoon or belly boat. The shorter the rod is, the easier it...

Re: *NEW* Hardy Jet 9'0" 5wt -- The Internet's 1st Review!!

If it was damaged, it wasn't by me. It was a new rod, but I take care of my older rods just the same as a new one. While I did hit the back of my opposite shoulder once with a streamer when I...

Re: *NEW* Hardy Jet 9'0" 5wt -- The Internet's 1st Review!!

UPDATE:

I got to take the rod out on the Arkansas near Pueblo yesterday. My lighter weight reel is out at the moment so I strung Rio Gold 5wt on a Hardy 7000DD reel. That's a pretty heavy reel...

Re: Best Low End 9'5wt

You "bought" a Ford with 200k on it? I'm surprised it had any value in it. I wouldn't buy a Ford with 0 miles on it. Heck, I wouldn't keep a free Ford with 0 miles on it. :p

Re: *NEW* Hardy Jet 9'0" 5wt -- The Internet's 1st Review!!

Yeah, that's the one and only video I've seen about it and all it says is there's 20 different rods, it's price range, and that it is a medium fast. I did some casting with it the other day and I'm...

Re: Rio Gold vs Rio Gold. What's the Difference Here?

What knot do you guys use to attack backing to a welded loop? I've always had lines that didn't have a back loop and simply used a nail knot to attack the backing.

*NEW* Hardy Jet 9'0" 5wt -- The Internet's 1st Review!!

I recently bought the brand new Hardy Jet 9'0' 5wt 4-piece for $449, which included my choice of fly line. I got the new Rio Perception as I already have a reel of Rio Gold. I don't yet know if...

Re: Best Low End 9'5wt

I'll put a vote in for a St Croix Imperial. That was my first rod, purchased at Dicks Sporting Goods. I knew nothing about fly fishing when I bought it. I had previously borrowed a coworker's rod...

Re: Rio Gold vs Rio Gold. What's the Difference Here?

Oh man. I feel silly now. How did I miss that? I'll have to get the first box, because I usually net fish that are facing to the left.

Why oh why is the Hardy CLS so heavy? Ugh!

I love the idea of this cassette reel as I am a big of a collector of lines I rarely use. It comes with 3 empty cassettes and extras are $15 or less. That certainly beats the $100+ spools I buy now...

Re: Rio Gold vs Rio Gold. What's the Difference Here?

Thanks, all! I ended up ordering the Perception with a $15 off coupon. Aside from a spool of Grand for a pike rod, this will be my first overweighed line. I have no idea how my rod and I will...

Re: Apples to Apples line weight

Yeah. Now can you explain that to my wife why I "need" several rods, several reels, several spools, and several lines? Can you explain to her why I have spools that have never been lined, but are...

Re: line suggestion for Zenith 10' 3wt

I hope you took advantage of Sierra Trading Post. They recently had a 35% off + free shipping coupon. It isn't supposed to include Hardy rods, but I got both a 3wt and 4wt Hardy Zenith in 8'...

New Hardy Jet Ordered :)

I couldn't find ANYTHING on the brand new 2013 Hardy Jet fly rod, so I ordered one. I'll let you guys know what I think sometime in December. I was in the market for an upgrade to my 590-2 Imperial...

Is Rio Perception REALLY Half Line Heavier?

I am in the market for another 5wt line and was going to shy away from the Perception and stick with the Gold because of the 1/2 line weight difference. I'm looking at the Rio website and I can't...

Re: Apples to Apples line weight

While you and I, and many in these forums may benefit, I agree with Rio. Ask yourself how many times you have seen a guy in waders, boots, a vest, and a net on his back slapping the water with his...

Re: Rio Gold vs Rio Gold. What's the Difference Here?

Thanks for the reply. If the one on sale doesn't have the Max Float technology and this new technology truly works, I don't mind paying the extra money for the new line. I've been frustrated more...

Rio Gold vs Rio Gold. What's the Difference Here?

I see two different boxes. One is one "sale" for $50 and the other is regularly priced at $75. What's the difference?

Re: New Rio Lines

I agree with both statements.

While not a scientific study, I can only stretch 5' of my two-year-old Rio Gold 5wt a few inches by pulling my hands apart, like a reverse chest fly (exercise, not...

Re: Ordered a new rig today. WOOHOO!

Haha, yeah. Last week I was out at Aurora on the shore with a buddy that's mostly into bass. I was rolling out and he commented "man you get that thing out there." That was with my 5wt. Gotta...

Ordered a new rig today. WOOHOO!

I had an itch to spend money so I ordered a Redington CTX 4pc 10' 8wt from Sierra for $186 shipped with coupon. I also ordered the Hardy Ultralight DD 7000 (7-9wt) in black to match the rod from a...

Re: Special Consideration? Rig For Wife?

I didn't think I'd play guide to her. I'm still in my 2nd caddis hatch, however (big however) I am the type of person that will watch a Youtube video 5 times then go outside to practice. I learned...

Re: Sink Tip? 15'? 24'? Sink Line?

Thanks, all!

Just got home with it. Found a brand new Classic Acessories Ponderay pontoon with a brand new 12v pump for $180 on Craigslist. ;)

Not exactly what I wanted, but I couldn't...

Re: Special Consideration? Rig For Wife?

LOL. Mine will start cleaning the fish before I get the fly out of its mouth.

I just got back from Bass Pro and they told me that a 4wt would actually be harder to learn on. I'll probably grab...
