Re: I need a new boat anchor

I use an oversized locking-type carabiner to secure my spike anchor in the anchor nest/mount on my trailer and have never had any problems with it coming out. I could get by with a smaller...

Re: dream fly fishing trip across several states-needing recommendations

Although I have not used a guide myself, since I am located in the area, for the Gallatin I would probably contact the guys at the Fins and Feathers Fly Shop and ask them. They show a Bozeman...

Re: Thoughts on Hyde

I see that now. Thanks. So this is just the standard 16 LP, which is what I or had, but with a bigger under the seats storage.

One other thing that I forgot to mention is that I have a walk...

Re: Thoughts on Hyde?

I had a Clacka 16 LP for several years, and now have a Hyde XL LP. Hands down, the Clacka was easier to row. However, the Hyde is a much bigger boat than was the Clacka - I do not know the Mega Box...

Re: What oars are you running?

After having and using a couple pair of counterbalanced Cataracts for a few years, and Carlisles as well for many years, I switched to Sawyers.

The first pair of Cataracts that I had were okay,...

Re: Bozeman MT Pre runoff ideas?

Access on the Yellowstone can be somewhat limited without a boat, or unless you get some detailed info.

The lower Madison, if fishable then, has lots of easy access, and you an get there and...

Re: Clackacraft or RO

I had a LP Clackacraft and really liked it as far as rowing. Then, I sold it and bought a Hyde XL low profile, and although it has all of the options that I wanted, (which the Clackacrat didn't...

Re: Bighorn mid July vs. Missouri end of June

I have fished both places numerous times, spend the entire summer in SW MT, and for my money it would be the MO hands down, particularly at the time of year you mentioned.

I don't know if you...

Re: The "Other" Madisons

And don't forget that there was plenty of rain in the morning to go along with that cold, and wind gusts of about 30 mph in the afternoon.

However, the 2 run-up rainbows that I landed yesterday...

Re: Click on Nautilus NV Reel

I did not go back to ask that dealer. I bought the reel from him several months ago, and had not used it until recently.

Click on Nautilus NV Reel

I recently bought a Nautilus NV 5/6 reel and extra spool from a dealer online, after I was unable to locate one from a local fly shop/dealer. One is a gigabyte spool and the other is the regular...

Re: Yep, sorry, but it's another Best Drift Boat thread

Geno -

I am located over in Paradise Valley on the Yellowstone during the summer, and like you, am retired.

I have a fairly new Hyde, and before that had a Clackacraft for a number of years. ...

Re: The Girdle Bug... This fly saved the day

Using epoxy will surely result in very secure legs, however, I find that if I wrap the body with lead (or a lead-free alternative), wind over the lead with tying thread to secure it, and then tie in...

Re: Montana Fisheries Letter

Yes, that seems to be the reason it didn't work for me either. Once I tried on my desktop computer, the link worked fine.

And thanks, Bob, for providing this info.

The link doesn't work for me either. I would love to read the report, but I am also unable to locate it on the FWP website, or by doing an Internet search.

I had wondered how they were going to...

Re: Felt sole or Rubber with Studs?

For me, hiking any distance with spikes is a lot harder on my feet than hiking with felt soles.

If you want the most comfort, combined with good footing, then I'd go with felt.
If you want...

Re: Patagonia wading boots suck (only not any more)

Patagonia has fantastic customer service, similar to LL Bean's, and a few others.

If you are not satisfied with any of their products, let them know and they will resolve it, in my experience.

Re: Summer FF related work in MT

I'll second that for the lower Madison at least. Had my truck shuttled to the wrong take out there last spring. Fortunately, I saw my truck as we floated by there, and only had to drag my boat back...

Those 99 cent ponchos might be a bit better than nothing, but I've seen them torn to shreds in a matter of a few minutes when the wind picks up, as it invariably does most afternoons in MT (and...

Re: Winter storage pontoon ?

It goes without saying that your pontoon should be dry before storing it for the winter. I just roll my tubes up and put ithem in a dry, but breathable, bag. I've kept my pontoons in an unheated...
