I was there last year, same time, and saw someone head off with a fly rod. He said later he fished a nice tailwater...

I have caught plenty of halibut at Goleta beach.
Try wading out as far as you can before you start fishing and concentrate on the area about half way between the pier and the steps below the cliffs...

In a previous post, bigcliff talked about having your fly float naturally without being drug through the water by the fly line. "mending" the line involves re-positioning the fly line on the water...

That may be an understatement. I have heard all good things. You should have a great time. The water levels are up all over the Sierras this year and there is a ton of insect activity. Good luck.

At some point or other I have fished all over so cal.
I like Piru Creek and San Gabriel river, although I haven't been to either one recently. Bear creek is nice also as is the Sespe and Ventura...

If the large red stripe runs down the middle of the back (front to back) it may actually be just a gap between the wing covers. Sometimes the wing covers part just a little and you see the red wings...

a 9 wt is my preferred bass rod.
small poppers or deer hair bugs on top are my favorites. They are not the most effective but they are the most fun for me.

From Valencia I would fish Piru creek all the time and the Kern River as often as I could (both above and below the lake).
Also, I think there are a couple of forebays near you that do not allow...

The initials you quote are not listed on the Hardy Bros website. They say their list is a partial list but...
