Re: What companys are fully made in america?

This Akuriko character asks a lot of questions that can be answered by a simple internet search.

Re: New fly rods?

I have one of each, a 5wt and a 4wt, respectively, and I love them. Love. :thumbsupu

Re: Hardy Zenith or St. Croix Avid

I think that last part is because the skeleton seat Zeniths are discontinued and thus discounted. People love a bargain. In ten years, I doubt anyone will rhapsodize about either reel seat--just the...

Re: Z-Axis versus One versus Scott Radian...

I'd like to know if either of the two newcomers can best the 10' 4wt Z-axis as a nymphing rod (that can do other things). For serious.

Re: Diamondback Glass rods?????

Hook and Hackle sells 7'6" 3 piece 3 wt blanks that "were manufactured in Japan according to the specs of the original Diamondglass blanks."

I know nothing else about them except what H&H says on...

Re: 4 Weight Rod Help

When I read your original post I immediately though of my St. Croix 8' 6" Legend Elite, but it's considered a fast rod and about $30/40 over budget. I think it's worth it; it just puts the line,...

Re: simms vs orvis

Simms, for the Gore-Tex. I spent the money on some G3s and haven't regretted it.

I remember the cashier here at the Natick Outdoor Store doing a double take when the price rang up. I said "Yeah,...

Re: Stiff wrist/Flex wrist

I've started thinking about it as having a strong wrist rather than a fixed wrist. It's just that many beginner casters have more experience throwing stuff (versus casting a fly rod) so it's...

Re: Your Fly rod brand of choice

Typically I can be brand loyal, but not in fly rods. I own favorite rods from Sage, St. Croix, Winston, Scott, Hardy, Kabuto, Tom Morgan, Anglers Workshop, Orvis, and Dan Craft.

I don't love every...

Re: Z-Axis versus One versus Scott Radian...

I'm more interested in which does the fishing thing better, and (like it or not) a lot of people cross shop the One and Radian. Not so many shop for the Z these days since it's discontinued.

If you're considering having a rod built, think about Anglers Workshop's Chalkstream Light blanks.

Re: The Economics of FF Retail

My suggestion is that you visit your local shop(s) and ask them what their most competitive price is. What I can buy from my shop(s) isn't particularly helpful for you in NC.

If you can get a...

Can you expound on this? My understanding is that it was just a hardware (reel seat) change. Thanks!

Re: what weight do i really need??

Since you say you have to deal with high winds all the time and you liked your previous 6wt a lot, I'd suggest sticking with a six weight. If you decide that you need a little more sensitivity, you...

Re: Curious: What if you break a warrantied rod which is out of production?

Sometimes they do have a section to replace the broken one, even for old rods, but if not then it's the latter.

Re: Carp Numbers in MA

There are largemouth, bluegill, and yellow perch in Leverett Pond, which is basically the headwaters of the Muddy River. I imagine they make their way between there and the Charles occasionally.

Re: Rods You Just Can't Part With

I'll never be able to let go the Garcia Conolon 8' 6/7wt glass rod that I learned on, but I did recondition it to lose the thick layer of paint and to have the correct number of guides installed....

Re: 9' 4wt suggestions?

If you really want a new reel to go with your new rod, then I would suggest looking into an 8'6" 4wt St. Croix Legend Elite.

If you can repurpose a reel you already own, then things open up to...
