Re: Which prescription polarized glasses

I have used Costa Del Mar sunglasses for close to 30 years. They are fantastic glasses. Here in Florida I don't go outside without a pair on. I like glass lenses for their optical clarity and prefer...

Re: RL Winston Nexus

Don't know where you are located but yes if you can try out a rod at a dealer or at the factory do so. I'm lucky in that our cabin in Montana is a 10 minute drive from the Winston factory and I get...

Re: RL Winston Nexus

I own 3 IM6 and 2 wts. They are all great but have slower to med actions. The 8.5' 5 weight and 9' 4 weight are great rods, very smooth casting instruments. The Nexus is great for a caster with a...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

I am using a textured GPX. This is new for me since I use mostly Rio lines. When I tried the rod at Winston they had it rigged with a GPX and I was really impressed. It s the fastest Winston I have...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

The Winston Nexus 6 is truly an outstanding rod in its price range and for that matter regardless of price. I bought one in August and fished it for 5 weeks in September and October in Montana. Very...

BLK good luck in your choice. For me the key element in your decision comes down to two words " Montana and March. Have a great time!

Re: Wading jackets

This year was my 23rd year fishing Montana in the spring and fall. I spend 5 weeks in the fall there and have had many different jackets. The little things on a jacket make all the difference. Things...

Re: Please help to determine value of this rod.

This type of rod sold for around $15.00 in the 1950s. I know because I bought one when I was 12 years old. It lasted about 3 weeks and the ferrells all became loose. The rods came in a wooden case...

Re: Beginner's fly rod quiver advice

For your location and fishing possibilities I would go with an 8.5' 4 weight, 9' 6weight and a 9' 8 weight. I would start with the 6 then the 8 for the salt and bass then the 4 and the 6 for trout....

Re: New Winston Nexus and Gvx?

I own both the GVX and the new Nexus and love them both. In fact I like them better than the BIIIx in 6 weights. The Nexus is a fast rod that is lazer accurate on larger rivers with bigger flies. The...

Re: Rod for jack crevalle/false albacore/bull reds

A 10 would be the best for the type of fish you are going after. Would also work on small Tarpon and Permit. I use a 9 in Biscayne Bay for Bones because of the larger fish and wind that can come up.

Re: winston passport or Greys streamflex gs2

The new Winston Nexus is a great rod. I have the 6 weight and just got back from 5 weeks in Montana. At 450.00 and made in Twin Bridges it will sell well. A fast rod, but still has that Winston sweet...

Re: Which will cast a heavier fly - fluoro or mono?

Leader construction is critical to turning over heavier flys. Use a leader that is 50 to 60% butt section. I would use 30 or 40# mono and then work down to 15 for bass. Something in the 7.5' to 8.5'...

You are going to love the 6 Nexus. I just got done on the Yellowstone using mine and I have to say I prefer it to my beloved BIix, and GVX. I fished it with a GPX textured line. I usually prefer Rio...

Re: Winston IM6 serial number 85000's ?

The shorter the IM6 Winston the faster the rod action is in most cases. One of the exceptions was the TMF which was slower than the regular IM6 8 ft rod.

Re: Time for new boot ?

The Korker system is IMHO fantastic if you need different soles for different conditions. The BOA system is great but they also have offerings with laces. I have been using their KGB boots for 2...
