I agree, you need your "A+" game to consistently catch trout. It receives a great deal of pressure from fisherman and other recreational river users. The trout must see thousands of flies...

This has been my go to trout indi rod the last couple of years. I use SA GPX with good success, of course YMMV.

Great write up- thanks. I love fishing parts of the Au Sable, have my whole life. If you're looking for the "lifestyle" it's a great area. As others have mentioned, much better trout fishing rivers...

I have a smaller one on my four weight. Nice reel with a drag system that I'll never utilize at this line weight. Like you, I got mine for a great price.

I'm not a huge steelhead guy, but I did fish the Pere Marquette twice this winter/spring. I didn't catch any steelhead, but did land a few browns around this size. Nice looking fish you caught this...
