Re: Which 7wt rod to buy

Dunno how exchange rates and shipping, etc. works out; but whenever folks ask about rods in that price range , my answer is TFO BVK or the St. Croix Imperial. Both worth more than they cost, IMO.

Re: Fly rods in hot vehicle

When I live in NM, there was always a rod and a gun behind the truck seat. Which rod? Which gun? Depended on the season..........

Re: How do you choose?

A 4wt. is a solid choice for here in CO, and IIRC, NY as well. A bit light for salmon/steelhead, but you're talking about 2 very different situations, IMO. You did spend your money, the One is a top...

Re: Wading & Casting builds near-photographic memories

I have nary a clue how to get around Denver, and most of the streets in Colorado Springs are a mystery to me. I can map out the fishing access places on the South Platte and Arkansas rivers in good...

Re: Leaving Civilization for 3 weeks

+1 on what's been posted already, my 2c:

- Alka-Seltzer. Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, drink it down your first night. Makes a heckuva difference.

- Hydrate or die. " I feel fine, I'm not thirsty."...

Re: How do you choose?

These really need to be answered first, but I'll make my post short.

Check out the TFO BVK and the St. Croix Imperial, and buy the one you're the most comfortable with. 9 foot 5 weight is the...

Re: Dear God its about to get hot!

Temps here getting into the 90's, normally not reason for complaint. With all the moisture we got, rain all but 3 days in May, humidity is a bear! Not even us naturalized Coloradoans are good with...

Re: New rod

Absolutely none taken, Scotty. For the record, I bought a BVK 908-4 for my upcoming AK trip. We'll see if Ard & Boss can put us on fish to test the bendo on it.....:weight_li:D

Re: Wyoming flyfishing

Seems like it takes a tank of gas to get anywhere in Wyoming, doesn't it? [poke]

BTW, nice fish.

Re: Wyoming: "Small, Medium or Large (you're choice)" Creek Fishing

So,

The wife caught the big fish, and,

The sis-in-law got hooked on fishing.

Good show, Larry, Well done!

Re: New rod

Dad has the TFO pro in a 5wt., too durn stiff! Not all that fast, just stiff in the tip. If you go TFO, stick with the BVK, IMO. Lots of reviews on that one, none bad.

Re: Streamer junkies!

My 5/6 is a Rugged Creek, comparing it to a Beulah really wouldn't be fair, IMO. Let's call mine a budget/ starter rod :p. I bought it to try this 2 hand stuff a try, to "dip my toe in the water"....

Re: Even confused about backing...

I like to load less than mfr. specs, for imperfect stacking and other problems that might happen. I'd say 40 yds. 12 lb, should leave some slack.

Hope those fires spare you and yours, Ard. Been checking the weather, it's been warmer and drier up there than here in Colorado Springs.

Many of us here complain about all the rain we've been...

Re: What Did You Buy Today?

Posted some of this on another thread, the list:

New Simms waders, Headwaters, I think.

New Simms boots, the ones with the crank (called a boa) instead of laces. What an innovation!

A Buff,...

Re: Streamer junkies!

Congrats, and welcome to the madness. Take that thing to the Texas hole and show 'em how it's done! My 5/6, not a Beulah, is like a 6 wt. single hander, IMO. Still bends plenty w/ teeny fish on.

Re: Scott Radian versus Sage ONE...

OK, time for me to jump in!

Cast a buncha roda on Monday (prep for my AK trip), and bought the Radian. 9 feet, 8 weight. Two words, light and sweet. We'll see if Boss approves.

Re: Nymph fishing and its frustrations

Another vote for the 'lil corkies. I leave the peg or toothpick long, it'll act as a pointer, and show more of what's going on. Many times I've lifted when I saw it turn- and caught a fish.

Big,...

Re: Fly eye threaders: anyone use them?

No matter the tool, you must shove something through the teeeny hole at the end of the fly. Might as well start with the tippet.

A couple of tricks: I don't understand why people try to grab a...

Re: Net or no Net

A net big enough for a 42 pound fish would be HUGE, and awkward, to say the least. Might be just plain easier to tail 'em, I hope to get a chance to test this soon. :D
