Re: Airflo super-dri River & Stream first impressions

I called Rajeff Sports earlier in the week to ask about the Mend, Distance Pro, and R/S. Jamie wasn't around but even the gal who answers the phone* is very knowledgeable about the lines. She...

Re: Vapen Black Vs. Response

I haven't cast the Vapen, but I did cast the Response and a number of other rods when I was looking for a 6wt for streamers and heavy nymphs. The Response was just okay, nothing bad about it but...

Re: Allen Volant - RED

I have gone back and forth many times as to whether to grab an Icon or not. I talked to both Justin and Evan about what I was looking for in a rod and they both said the Xa/Xa2 would be the best fit...

Re: 3 ways 4wt reel battle

I have no experience with any of those reels, but from a purely aesthetics point the Hardy is pretty sharp and matches up very well. The price is reasonable, and S&S seems to really like then...and...

Re: Allen Volant - RED

Dang it Allen, you're killing me! I've been regretting not grabbing the 10ft 4wt since the XA2 series abruptly ended and have been waiting patiently for the new release. That being said, I don't know...

Re: Best of the mod. to mod/fast past & present ?

For rods still manufactured you really can't go wrong with the 8'8" Scott G2s. They are just flat at fun to fish and have a wider practical range then one might expect.

Sage really had some...

Re: Lamson Litespeed Question

Upon reviewing the physical weights of the reels again I'm going to change my answer to the 3.5 as well.

I will also second ts47 and vote for the Velocity as well. They are fantastic reels for the...

Re: 2nd most used line type?

I really like the Airflo Mend, but it is a 1.5 line. I'm strongly considering the Distance Pro as it's true to weight and mends extremely well too. For a second line I just ordered a Rio Streamer Tip...

Re: Lamson Litespeed Question

The Xi3 and VXP are both on sale/closeout at heavy discounts right now. The 8wt VXP is a fantastic rod... I sold mine for something longer :o

Re: 2 lines for Hardy Zenith 9' 6wt

I called Airflo (Rajeff Sports) today to get an idea of the actual weight of the Super Dri Mend line (forgot to ask about the Exceed). They confirmed that is a 1.5 line so I'm going to try that...

Re: Stoopid closeouts......

Actually what happen is that neither the Gold nor the Grand lines physically changed, but rather Rio changed their descriptions of their products to be more accurate as to how heavy the lines really...

Re: Lamson Litespeed Question

The answer depends on the physical weight of the rod you are putting it on and the capacities and physical weights of the generation of Litespeeds you are looking at. Off the top of my head I think...

Re: Stoopid closeouts......

For that type of fly fishing on that rod sounds like Rio Gold would be your best bet, followed by the Airflo Exceed. Sounds like you found yourself a good challenge!

Re: Stoopid closeouts......

Hey WayCool - The Grand 6wt line is technically a 7.1, or full 1.1 weight heavier. That's a heavy line, certainly too heavy for a VXP (I owned an 8 wt). Weight aside, it's not a great taper design...

Re: Reel for Greys XF2 Streamflex 5 wt

You would be just fine with the Konic II, the 0.3 oz difference would barely be noticeably...but the lack of line/backing capacity (on the 1.5) would be. You can always save a little weight by not...

Re: 2 lines for Hardy Zenith 9' 6wt

Curious as to what line(s) you ended up with? I finally picked up a 9' 6wt Zenith on an impulse buy and wondering what to do about a full floater for chucking big bugs out of a boat.

Re: What's best for my z-axis 590?

I think you have brought this line up in the past as being a taper you were curious about. If it's true to weight I may try it on one of my 5 or 6 wts..

Re: Airflo super-dri River & Stream first impressions

I can attest that the Super-Dri Mend is heavy for the line weight. As to how heavy I'm not sure but I've got an email into Rajeff Sports to get a better idea. I'm not a fan the short, heavy lines...

Re: What's best for my z-axis 590?

Not to derail this thread but I had no idea that the SA expert distance was to true to line weight. I love the taper of the Gold, but some of my rods don't like the (extra) weight. I was considering...

When you say newest version, are you referring to the "Intouch" Rio Gold?

Re: 5wt VS 6wt

Hi Matt -

I'm one of the people who encouraged you to go with the 6wt B3x, but for a slightly different reason than the others. When my home waters changed last year I went from 3 and 5wt to 4 and...

Re: Let's talk about nets.

The decent thermoplastic nets aren't cheap, but you should be able to buy a pretty decent one for around $60. I believe Leland had a house brand net for that price. Steer clear of Cabelas one, it's...
