Re: Bauer RX

Count me as one happy Bauer owner. I have a pretty beat up Bauer Lohr on my 10' six weight Echo 3 that I love. I use it streamer fishing.

Re: Winston wt trout or scott G2 witch is better?

I have a 904/4 Scott G (not G2), and a 7.5' 3 weight WT, I'd call it a tie. There is nothing prettier IMO than a dark green deep gloss Winston, but I am one of those that really loves the look of...

Re: Scott Radian line. recommendation?

I've had a 9' 5wt Radian for almost a year now and have played with a number of lines. I wouldn't overthink the over-lining issue. I started with a 5 weight WF SA Ultimate Trout Sharkskin that I had...

Re: High End Fly Rod Suggestions

I love my Radian and know he couldn't go wrong with one, unless he prefers a slower action rod like a Scott G, Winston WT or the like. He should try a few diferent rods of various actions to see...

Re: High End Fly Rod Suggestions

I'm not WWT, but if he's saying there are a myriad of reels from relatively inexpensive to really high end, that will match up fine with a rod in the categories you mention, I agree with him. I think...

Re: 5wt VS 6wt

When I started flyfishing in the mid 60s, fiberglass six weights were considered the standard light trout outfit, a lot of guys including my Dad fished seven weights. I think as long as you have a...

Re: Sage Sp ,Xp, or RPL+?

I ended up with a Radian which I love, but at first didn't feel right with the Sharkskin Ultimate Trout I had. That's the line and reel I had on the Z-Axis. When I switched to a GPX then Rio Gold,...

Re: 6-Weight Renaissance

I'm sold; I love my new 9' five weight Radian, but kind of wish I got the six instead. I actually fished my six weight Echo 3 and Scott G as much as the new Radian. A few times the wind was the...

Re: Sage Sp ,Xp, or RPL+?

Hey TNLL, how does that Z-Axis compare to an XP? I always liked the XP, not so much the RPL and am now thinking I had the wrong line on that Z-Axis I sold you. I think I would have liked it better...

Re: Sage Sp ,Xp, or RPL+?

I owned a 9' five weight RPL and 8 1/2' five weight SP. I liked the SP a lot more, it was a very sweet rod, perhaps the nearest rod to the Scott G series Sage ever made. It was made with Graphite IV...

Re: So.... I'm a bit stuck in a rut.

I use two different rods in our small water. A Winston WT 7 1/2' three weight and my Scott 9' four weight G series. I fish the Winston conventionally, casting in the narrow confines of the stream,...

Re: Rio Lines and a Scott Radian- Question

My perception casting my Radian is that it is a fast action rod that flexes as you describe, so I was surprised when my buddy sent me a pic he took of me fishing out of the bow of my boat earlier...

Re: Rio Lines and a Scott Radian- Question

Sorry can't help you on the perception, but like you I found the Rio Gold to be much better at presenting flies than the GPX. I do think the GPX would load better short, but would slam the fly down...

Re: Trout Fly Rod Arsenal

A short three weight and a nice four weight would be nice. I love my Winston WT 7'-6" three weight and Scott G 9' four weight.

Re: Bootfoot waders...

Just to be clear, the dry-plus bootfoot waders I'm taking about have an integral lace-up boot very similar to a normal wading boot, not the pull-on style that we see on the hunting waders. I was...

Bootfoot waders...

I only bought my first lightweight breathable waders ten years ago. Before that I wore my neoprene duck hunting waders in cold water, but most of the summer it was shorts and wading sandals. The...

Re: Who still uses a vest?

Now having experimented halfway through the summer I have settled on using the Simms pack to hold the bulk of my flies and gear, but leave it in the truck or boat while I wear my mesh vest. I tailor...

Re: Common Cents System not making sense to me

Thankfully, we now have the internet and forums such as this one to help put us in the ballpark. What I do when trying to match a line to rod is; 1) call the rod manufacturer and ask them what they...

Re: Radian 8ft 6" 4 wt

Not S&S, but I have a Radian. I called Scott, talked to local fly shops and experimented with various line. Bottom line, I really like the Rio Gold with mine. It loads nicely with a GPX WF line, but...

Re: Winston IM6 serial number 85000's ?

I remember trying my first graphite fly rods at a nice fly shop in downtown San Francisco in the spring of 1991. I tried four different rods, A Sage RPL, Sage LL, Scott PowRply (G series) and Winston...

Re: Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

I've been in Montana 23 years and this was my first trip to the Mighty Mo, boy was I missing out. Most of the fisherman I know here in the Flathead try to hit it in early spring or late fall to miss...

Re: Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

My first fish seemed like a monster to me, but my guide was not impressed. I thought it was 24" so he laid it against the tape he has glued to his gunnel to show me it was a measly 21". I only caught...

Re: Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

I didn't see much point, there was zero finesse or technique to the casting. I may as we'll have been fishing a worm and bobber off an old cane pole until you hook a fish, then a heavy deep sea rod...

Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

Last weekend I got to spend two days on the Mo and one fishing Rock Creek. The weather was very hot and had been mid ninties for more than a week prior, so fishing the lower section wasn't fishing...
