Re: Orvis's New Nipper

Thanks for that info HH07! I had no idea there was a difference; but at 74 I don't have a lot of 'Younguns' running around the house.

Re: How to Stay Safe in Bear Country

Great Link/Read Larry; copied same for posting up on a couple of other fishing boards. Only had a Bear encounter a couple of times (that I can think of) and just stood there.

In the second...

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

Well if I could remember how to post up a picture (or take the time to even take the picture) I still just go with over sized 'toe nail' clippers. All these 'new and improved' just makes me shake my...

Re: Reel & Spool Advice?

If you want inexpensive and well built ..... you still can't beat the Pflueger. Med reels. Not sure if I'd get the new design but the 'old one,' with some up dating, has been around since the late...

Thumbs up Re: New (2017) Orvis Mirage USA made

Some of the best reels I've ever used are the old Phlug. Med's; things are simple, time tested, and only one I ever 'broke' was via my car tire rolling over the thing.:weight_li

Re: Gear and techniques for NZ in October

Go with a more 'darkish' coloured line and a longer leader if casting conditions permit, in most places (South Island) the streams are rather small so 'stocking the water,' keeping low is a good...

Re: Gear and techniques for NZ in October

Been a long time since I've been to NZ but fishing there (streams) is a total hoot. As far as flies were concerned stick with small 'dark patterns. Bring lots of bug repel!; bitie flies were thick,...

Thumbs up Re: Thinkng about a Drift boat!

Beautiful designed boats AND you have a whole set of 'options' that you can order up. The one thing I like the best (I'm 74) is the swing out doors on the side. Getting in/out of a regular drift boat...

Re: Need Neoprene Flats Bootie to go over waders. Suggestions?

Welcome to the real world; I have no idea who puts the sizing on fishing boots but it has no basis in reality.:weight_li

I ware a size 10 street shoe and needed to go to a size 13 wading.

Re: Interview with the builder:Stickman Rods

A good example of why I like my Gary Anderson 2handers; when he says 'It's a five,' it is exactly that, a five. Have Steve Godshall build me a line for it, and it will also be a five.

They sure do! My go to fly for Steelhead is a #10 Prince Nymph. For Salmon here on the Rogue River I'll up that to a size 4 or 6.

Re: Dec Hogan 2Handed Rod Casting Classes.

If you get in the Medford, OR area have several 2handers you can try. One thing I've found is far too many buy a 8-10 wt 15 foot rod. DON'T!
