Re: New Air rod from winston

That's what a warranty is: the company warrants the product to be free of defects.

Anything else is an insurance claim. (No company warrants their product to be unbreakable in perpetuity.)

Re: Sage X sweeps IFTD 2016 rod categories

This news surprises me, since those guys from the forums who went and had a cast with the new $1000+ rods from Shimano all said they were better than the Sage rods.

I think gutterpunk may well be...

Re: What are the advantages of fibreglass?

I love my glass rods for their toughness and fun-factor. Nearly all mine are much heavier line-weights than what you're looking at though.

You may find that a 4wt glass is better than a 2wt CF rod...

Re: Break a rod . . . in anger?

I have broken a couple through stupidity, but never in anger. (I was angry AFTER the breakage!)

One of my mates did break a rod in anger though: after losing a fish, he slapped his rod onto the...

Re: Casting arch and rod dip....help

Sorry Boisker,

You seem to have missed what I wrote, even though you quoted it word for word. Please read it again.

There's no mention of loops, just the tip path.

Cheers,
Graeme

Re: Casting arch and rod dip....help

To increase the distance of your cast, you need to increase the line speed and it must be focused through a tight loop. (High line speed on a wide loop is not great.)

To increase line speed,...

Re: Casting arch and rod dip....help

It makes sense, but it's not something you should need to do. Without seeing your cast, I'd say there's a fault elsewhere that you're compensating for with this manoeuvre.

cheers,
Graeme

Re: Casting arch and rod dip....help

Dipping, or "opening the wrist up"? If dipping, that's a new one to me, but opening the wrist right up is a very common fault. It will make your back-cast loop very wide - maybe so wide it's not even...

Re: Casting arch and rod dip....help

G'day James,

The tip will drop below SLP if you don't apply power correctly. Start slow, finish abruptly and you won't need to drop your elbow during the cast.

Does it truly follow a straight...

Re: The goodies just don't stop! Found another Boo!

It might sound obvious, but how about putting a few different lines over it and picking the best fit for you?

If there's no label on it, you get to choose what line weight it is. :)

Cheers,...

Re: Rod Design

I would agree with most of that, the exception being the bit about the new 6wt being similar to the 5wt you already own. If the 5wt is from a few years ago, your new 6wt is likely to be closer to the...

Re: Rod Design

The reason I don't need the HT4 is that I fish in salt water most of the time, and it's a very windy place here in Perth. I do own a couple of 4wt rods, but the only one I use is a 'glass rod (Epic...

Re: Rod Design

Is fast by American standards equal to "Sage fast" or "Scott fast" or "TFO fast" or "T&T fast" or "Orvis fast"?

"Fast by American standards" can have a whole lot of meanings, as I've found...

Re: Rod Design

I haven't had a serious cast with a ONE or NS in the 6 or 8 weight versions. I've got a 10wt ONE though. (I don't own an NS.) We have a club casting day this weekend and I can get a few of the guys...

Paul is a Pom, not an Aussie, but both countries share a lot of humour, that's for sure. (Aussies call the Brits "Poms", in case that's a new term for you.)

Paul is indeed a very generous bloke...

Did you try that trick with the double and triple Surgeons' Knots before giving up on them?

Re: Fly Fishing "Posers"

You really should have offered her some lessons on how to use the fly rod.

Or at least get some video footage you could post on her timeline if you saw it on FB ... ;)

Re: Recommended fly rod for 8wt Rio Outbound

G'day Roman,

It sounds to me like you're having trouble casting, but it's not the fault of the rod or the line.

I'd suggest spending the money you would have spent on a rod on casting lessons...

Re: Do we need expensive rod to fly fish with?

When you're a beginner, every fly rod looks to be much more expensive than it should be for what you're getting. The term "expensive" means different things to each of us.

So, to a beginner, yes,...
