The gape in your hook won't help improve timing of setting the hook... Tons of flies are tied on 2xl 2xh... And people catch fish on them just fine... Stop over thinking and keep it simple

I use fluoro for everything. I also used furled leaders which I think helps the fluoro's lack of stretch by acting as a shock absorber
