Re: Cattaraugus Creek NY

We've been getting into steelhead elsewhere besides the Catt lately, some places a bit closer to home. It's fishable right now though I don't know what fish numbers are like. Conditions are good...

Re: How is Rio Grande different than just over lining?

If I'm not mistaken, a 5wt Rio Grande would actually weigh out at 5.5wt rather than 6.5. While it is certainly an instance of uplining the rod, it is not as drastic as buying a full line size...

Re: How did you choose your screen name?

I went to the University of Florida and grew up in Florida, but have since moved away. When I lived in Kentucky, in the land of Wildcats fans, it was an applicable forum nickname and just stuck.

Re: Bourbon

I'll throw in my vote for Rare Breed as well, definitely a fan. However, in the year I lived in Louisville it certainly wasn't the only bourbon I tasted! And Shotgun, a whisky/whiskey thread wouldn't...

Re: Hawkins Triple Double and Moto's Minnow

Sorry for the delay. I haven't fished the Triple Double (though Ive fished similar flies). That much meat getting tossed and then stripped usually brings out the piggish browns. Try a variety of...

Re: Cattaraugus Creek NY

Swinging big nasty flies will do you well this time of year, particularly in the higher water. The Catt will certainly not be gin clear, but even in some murk white is a regular killer on the Creek....

Re: About tippet for Great lake steelheads

Was seeing a lot of low and clear, so I have used 5x tippet on a number of occasions, with flies as small as sz 18. HOWEVER, since my trip out to the West Coast I have been testing heavier tippets. I...

Re: Cattaraugus Creek NY

You have to use photobucket or some similar website and copy the IMG link into the thread in order to post a photo. Those glass beads I mentioned are about 3 dollars at JoAnn for what seems like...

Re: Cattaraugus Creek NY

If you haven't yet, tie some hares ears in black, and don't hesitate to add a flashback. I also use a Frenchie-like fly with an orange glass bead in the thorax collared with a partridge feather but...

Re: Missing members?

The best part of those two photos is how everyone else's expressions remain pretty much the same... And yeah, definitely not a photoshop job haha.

I can't be much help on thinking of who is...

Re: Cattaraugus Creek NY

Well let me know. I can give you the bars to sit at OR the places to fish if the Catt is blown (even our small waters right now are up in peoples' backyards and close to overflowing sections of...

Re: Where to go in OR or WA?

If you're headed out to Forks (I was just there in February), check out Rain Coast Guides. Took a trip with Jim and it was the best guided trip I've ever taken. Definitely worth a shot. Plus the...

Re: accidental catch...

Definitely not a small one! Some may call them trash fish, but they're definitely entertaining, just like carp and their other down-turned-mouth cousins.

Re: Cattaraugus Creek NY

I'll keep a closer eye on it as the time gets closer. We're getting some serious water right now so hopefully it calms down as it gets closer to that week. Hopefully I'll be able to get down there...

Re: Best pontoon boat under $500

There is also the option out there of inflatable kayaks. I had a friend purchase one from REI yesterday for around $300. There is also the Nomad OGS Commander: a little more money but pretty darn...
