I have a knock-off Boca grip made by Field and Stream. Works just fine. I used it when canoe/kayak fishing and have used it out of a boat in a pinch, as well as from shore. Honestly, it also works...

I too just joined the tenkara ranks. I went with a 11' rod from Fountainhead. The price was right for me and the guy seemed like a genuinely great guy, so I felt good about supporting his product....

I dont think what people are saying is confusing.

Go with a furled leader. Tie on piece of fishing line either mono or flourocarbon of about 5'-10' depending on what you like and what size fly...
