Re: Pfleuger Medalist Sticky

Can't you reverse the wind on a Medalist by turning the click-wheel over inside? One side has more ramped indentations than the other, if I remember correctly. Also, these are fairly heavy reels...

Re: Lanyards

I had slimmed down to a belt pack and a lanyard, but the belt pack kept dipping in the water and the lanyard is a lot of stuff jingling around your neck. I use the Vedavoo sling pack, which is small...

Re: Video of the Colorado Division of Wildlife air dropping Cutthroats

Wow, talk about catch and release...

I wonder what the survival rate is. It is true that fish have to survive pretty violent water action when rivers flood or dams have a release.

There was...

Re: Fly Fishing Filmmaking

Well, actually I do make television documentaries for a living, but not about fishing (Iím sad to say).

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but here is some advice:

1. Donít shoot anywhere that...

Re: Best hip, waist, or sling pack for under $60?

A little above your budget, but this thing is the bomb. Watch the video:

Re: Best dog breed to take fishing?

Best fishing dog hands down is the Irish Ghost Hound. They don't eat, they don't sh*t, they don't jump in your pool and they have been dead for 300 years...

Re: New to the sport and the forum - few questions

Welcome to the forum Scotty, and to fly fishing and goodbye to your wallet...

Only kidding.

I liked it that you have no hesitation at asking basic questions. And you were smart to hire a...

Re: Wading boots! Help.

When Maryland banned felt soles, I had to make this decision and I looked at a lot of options. This is particularly important to me because I have a bum knee and it doesn't take much to dump me in...

Re: Turtles on the fly?!?!?!?

Only tangentially related, but last week I was fishing when I founded myself with beavers in the water, and it seemed like they were circling me. Now I don't think they really were, but when more...

Saving time on the water

I came across this in a post on http://www.paflyfish.com/smartsection.item.255/a-knotty-approach-to-time-on-the-water.html (one among many) and although it may seem like common sense, I never thought...

Re: Best nippers?

I just found out (according to Fishpond) that you could sharpen their nippers ($23) by rubbing the flat end on a sharpening stone. They said that is how they do it in the first place. I had quit...

Re: Is Tenkara a fad?

Why **** in somebody else's chili? What difference does it make if somebody wants to use a Japanese tradition or fish in a hula-hoop? As long as they don't let their dog jump in my pool, I couldn't...

Re: Do you ever fish with Two Rods....?

I have my Gillie carry my extra rods, reels, spools, net, and folding chair, as well as dry tweeds and the most recent copy of the London Financial Times. If he can't keep up, I have him flogged.

Re: Online Movie: The Lost World of Mr. Hardy

First of all, I applaud Bigfly's instinct towards decency regarding viewing pirated internet films, even if he was wrong in the specifics of this case. As it is in the music business, it is hard for...

Re: Net your own fish

I don't know how many people have seen the old footage of James Hardy catching a Salmon and then handing the rod to his butler to bring it in, so that he won't get wet. I think he was wearing a tie...

Re: Fly Fishing Reel Weight

I agree that a lighter rod and reel would probably be more useful to you in the circumstances you describe. I use a Medalist on a 8 1/2' Phillipson bamboo rod because it is the second heaviest reel I...

Finding a wader leak

I went fishing on Monday and when I put my waders on I found a big broken-off black-thorn sticking out of the shin of my waders. I pulled it out but saw no hole. In fact there was no evidence that...

Re: Renzetti or Peak rotary vises?

Peak's a great vise but I sold mine to buy a Nor Vise which (though more expensive) is a whole other world of rotary function and techniques. The Peak is built like a tank and works very well, but...
