Re: Fly vises are a good investment, and I need a bluegill patterns right now!

They take wooly buggers pretty good for me. I go to a local lake once in a while. The bait fisherman hit it pretty hard. Fish don't see a lot of flies so I normally out fish the bait guys. I have...

Re: New Allen Series rods

That's fine. I understand that sometimes that is part of the deal that you would have to make. It's all good. I just figured I would ask in case it wasn't part of it. Hence the word able. If you can...

Re: New Allen Series rods

Hi Justin,

Are you able to tell us who will manufacture the blanks for you? From what I've read I'm quite impressed with your commitment to quality, service and affordability. I applaud your...

Re: At least he was honest!

Mike

That's what I ment by trained. Not feed a line of sales BS. But to simply say something along the lines of " I'm not very knowledgable on knives let me see if a can find a staff member that...

Re: At least he was honest!

It is possible that he is knowledgeable in a different department and got shifted to fill an absence. They should be trained to give a little better response and that falls on management if it...

Re: "CLARK" reels?

Hi Ard,

Haha. I should have looked to see where he is. I saw your post in the other thread. I used to have a herd of Tetons but sold a bunch of my stuff after a bad accident to pay bills. I...

Re: "CLARK" reels?

Ard, you're really trying to sell that reel Caseywise has up. I was going to make a joke about him using the money towards a guided trip in Ak but don't want it to be taken wrong.

For me it's no...

Re: Upper Patuxent

My Internet went out yesterday so I'll try this on the phone. I had thought about using some modified bonefish patterns for crayfish. The fish keep eating them Pax. Specials so I never got around to...

Re: The Brook Trout of Minipi by Lee Wulff

I like watching the Lee Wulff stuff. I especially like the ones where he is giving the play by play like a sports commentator. They are fun to watch. For me Trevor just doesn't seem to have the...

Re: Upper Patuxent

I'm glad you brought that up. I know for me, I tend to get focused on fishing and at times can become completely unaware of somebody approaching me. On the upper and middle Patuxent it can really...

Re: Upper Patuxent

It's been a couple years since I've fished it. The holdover rate has much more to do with poaching than water temps and food. If you see the signs of bait dunkers skip over the area completely....

Re: 8WT Recommendations

With the Bay and larger tribs for 99% of situations I like a fast rod. An 8 on the bay chasing rockfish is one place I like boomstick fast. The wind can be quite harsh and the stiff rods, if you can...

Re: lowest priced machined reel?

I bought two of the cheap cast china reels. From the limited pictures on the popular auction site it appeared to have the same drag as most of the sub $100 dollar reels. I paid around $14 inc...

Re: Best 5 wt under 250.00 ?

Hmmm. That sucks. I haven't bought anything from Cabelas in years. I was kind of assuming on the $250 figure huh? I can't remember what I paid for my 10wt. but it was their flagship model at the...

Re: Best 5 wt under 250.00 ?

I have to say I would be tickled pink if cabelas gave me $250 for my LST. I bought a ten weight years ago just to see... I never really liked it for anything but throwing a Teeny 450 and it did that...

Re: An interesting story about the Grandkids

Cool that they are that interested. Do they have any friends that are interested? I don't know if you are involved or have 4H in your area. One of our county 4H clubs is a fishing club. And there was...

Re: Hardy Zenith Beginner Friendly?

I think you will be fine. I'm assuming you bought without trying. I've never tried a zenith but from what I've read it falls in the soft tipped fast action as opposed to broomstick fast. I fish Md....

Re: What is your real name?

My name is Frank Tappen. I kept putting in usernames and it kept spitting them back. I get really annoyed for some reason at the T-Roy and T-Troy thing. The putting a T in front of names. So after...

Re: Tactics for wary trout?

When it's like this I do a couple things. I move slow and stay as low as possible. The lower you are the more water surface distorts your figure to fish. If I know the fish have seen me I stand there...

Re: Trout Fishing Near Northern Virginia

I'm not sure how the Casselman would be in the fall/winter. Unless they do a fall stocking it will be pretty much empty. It doesn't holdover well. And the bait guys clean it out pretty good after the...

Re: Trout Fishing Near Northern Virginia

In the late fall I'm normally 15'-25' up a tree with a bow in my hand. If not I would be on the Bay or lower Potomac. I still haven't broken that 40" mark on rockfish with the fly.

As far as...

Re: Trout Fishing Near Northern Virginia

For Md. trout I would recommend the book "Guide to Maryland Trout Fishing" by Charlie Gelso and Larry Coburn. It covers the special reg streams and is broken into central and western Md. It also...

Re: Favorite Fly Shop

I have no local flyshop anymore. It's a 2 hour or so drive to a flyshop and an hour plus to Bass Pro. When the local flyshop was still open this is one thing that happened... I'll start with I prefer...

Re: I guess thats some sort of a "hat trick"

That's cool to get three of them. I spent a couple days trying for them. I haven't had much problem getting them to take. I've had a problem getting a solid hookset in the kayak. I've got to watch a...

Re: Did I not tell ya'll ?

I had to submit a letter to my Post office to have ALL packages reguardless of size held at P.O. for pick-up. I live in a fairly rural area and a couple hundred yards from my mailbox. Evidently it...
