Re: Uh, watch out for beaver

Sounds like you have led an very interesting life, in and out of the office. I have never been asked to teach a naked young lady to fly fish! I guess that you have to look like a "Boy Scout"....

Re: Uh, watch out for beaver

I was enjoying the train ride guys but it looks like Fred's last post has caused a derailment. No injuries so I'm going fishing to clear my mind.

Re: Backing choice

20# Dacron in a colour to make the reel pop ( orange or yellow ) and fill up the spool to prevent coils in my line. I will never get into the backing when fishing Brookies and Rainbows around here. :D

Re: Ideas on wet-wading shoes?

For me and I admit in this climate I don't do a lot of wet wading because of water temperature, cleated boots for safety and support are my choice. Sandals don't do that for me. Studs are a must,...

Re: Custom Sage One rod vs. Factory

While browsing in my local tackle shop I stopped to talk to the sales guy and also an old friend engaged in a deep conversation regarding my friend's disappointment of the Sage ONE performance. He...

Re: Custom Sage One rod vs. Factory

I can't totally agree with that statement. It would depend on the name of the original builder. I don't see where used factory rods command anymore on resale unless it's a classic like the Sage 389...

Re: Custom Sage One rod vs. Factory

Once you have decided on the rod the only thing left is to find a quality builder. Sounds like you have found both and at a great price. This is a no-brainer, go with a custom build and get a one of...

Re: Why buy high end?

High end doesn't necessarily mean high performance. I see nothing wrong with giving ice cream to a pig if he/she wants it!...OinnnnnnK.

Re: Fish Don't Feel Pain?

If thinking that way works for you, than have at it. It shows even the intelligence of science seems to be missing at times. My opinion is that they do feel pain, maybe not in the same sense as...

Re: Sage and rio to sell direct

There is no doubt that people run to these big box stores due to the selection of product available to the consumer and this will no doubt put pressure on the local shop. There is nothing wrong with...

Re: Why buy high end?

Good to see that someone enjoys the past and isn't totally caught up in all of todays marketing hoopla. I get your point. :D

Re: Why buy high end?

IMO it's "eye candy" and seems to satisfy those with deep materialistic feelings in one's being when it comes to Trout fishing. $500 line holders and bamboo sticks. When it comes to larger game, I...

Re: Fenwick HMG rod opinions?

Lucky you. Great find, you may want to share the address with the membership. For me to purchase outside Canada, I will pay the difference in taxes, exchange and shipping so I will end up buying...

Re: Fenwick HMG rod opinions?

I have read mixed reviews on both the HMG and it's faster brother, the AETOS. I have held both in my hands and like the looks of both but have not had an opportunity to cast either. Price for the HMG...

Re: Fiberglass fly rods?

Can't resist the opportunity to recommend two wonderful rods that I have and are extremely happy with:

a.) Kabuto blank, a 3 piece 4 weight7'-6" built by George Minculete at Tightloop. Lots of US...

Re: Sage and rio to sell direct

IMHO I can see why the manufacturers like Sage, SIMMS, and others sell direct. If they are able to set up at the larger FF Shows to sell their goods and at a price equal to that of any of the shops...

Re: Is anyone else disturbed by the KFC Colonel Sanders commericials

Just saw the commercial for the first time today. Looks and sounds like a total waste of advertising money. Can't see that bringing in any more customers. Not sure what this has to do with a ff...

Re: Why buy high end?

Well said, I couldn't have said it better. For those of us that can afford to satisfy our desire to own the best (or maybe I should say the more expensive), fill your boots. I fish mostly small...

Re: Sage and rio to sell direct

Just my opinion but it was just a matter of time. When one does it, they all feel obligated to follow. I have always supported my local shop and when they couldn't provide the service, I went to a US...

Re: Is anyone else disturbed by the KFC Colonel Sanders commericials

Might be yummy but a major contributor to clogged arteries and the "inner tube" around one's waist! Health care costs are on the rise due to a lack of interest in living healthy. Fast food is a...

Re: Addiction to fly rods? How many.

I stopped at 12, 5 of which were 4 weights. I came to the conclusion that I had too much duplication and I was always grabbing for the same rod and the rest sat in the rack. Seemed like a waste of...

Re: Sage Mod (and other new rods at EFTTEX 2015)

Seems like a pattern developing here, the word "FAST" appears in the description of 8 of the 9 rods mentioned.
